Hi a friend of mine is living in Cork in an apartment block her neighbours say its chorus they have in the apartment. But I need to know if its cable or mmds before I buy a box for her? How can she tell? also if it mmds is it possible that they switched over to dvb-c in that recent switch over.
Cork city mmds or cable??????????

If you look under the neighbours receiver you'll see a T or C in the serial number or model number.
T= mmds and C=cable. And if you can see the rooftops you should see a squarial(square antenna) for bringing in the mmds signal, but imo all appartments are mostly wired for cable but I could be wrong.
Hope this helps,

No, Chxxus cable not available through ariel, have to have DVB-T box for Chxxus(mmds), even if ariel is supplying whole block of apartments, still use 'T' box.

If its in the City / Centre it will be cable / not MMDS Fiber-optic cable most likely carrying Television ,Telephone and Internet.
MMDS is for areas out side Citys and Town's that are not covered by a Cable Network such as Rural Areas = Country Side the signal is defelected from hilltops across the country side.
The only exception to the above is if Your friend lives in suburbia or Satellite Town Close to or near a a Major City then there is a chance its MMDS.
