Just killed my box... Help!

Complete noob at all this I'm afraid... clearly got a bit big for my boots!

I was trying to install a new image on my 500c as there were numerous channels that I wasn't receiving and I thought that would fix it - probably wrongly.

I uploaded digital kaos 1.1 image to the tmp folder via Flash. All fine until I attempted the next step in the 'Getting the best from your 500 series' guide which was to use this command via telnet:

cd /tmp && eraseall /dev/mtd/3 && cp backup.img /dev/mtd/3 && reboot

Now I've just got a blank screen and can't reconnect to the box via Flash.

Any assistance would be very much appreciated!!

change the ip address of your dreambox in network settings then reboot...should be able to get in now with your ftp clirnt now

You will have to use Dreamup with a null modem cable. (9pin serial).

correct you need NULL modem cable and dreamup to recover this box.

Slight issue - laptop doesn't appear to have a 9-pin com port.

Bought the cable... thought it didn't fit because it was female to female connections and went back to buy an adaptor... turns out I'm trying to shove it into the vga port.

Is there a work around at all?

you will need a usb to rs232 converter cable m8
USB to Serial 9-Pin Male Adaptor : USB Adaptors : Maplin
