    DM600 - Kinda Broke!

    Hi People

I usually have the mentality of, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

My 600 has never been right since the changes in the encryption. Now my box works but I have to re-boot after each key roll despite copying files etc. Had a nightmare getting it just to that point after the new fix was out!

Here is my problem do I tinker with an image (PLI seems to be the flavour of the month) and hope it works again seamlessly first time? Or leave it as is?

Plus with all the files vanishing off the interweb, how do I know I'm getting the right files these days?

Sorry for all the questions - but I'm used to flashing an image on my 500 and just scanning and that was it. Now I'm even thinking of giving up on my 600!!!!

Mr Dude's newbie image - or whatever it was called

      <--mad.dog added 20 Minutes and 36 Seconds later...-->

I guess I should also ask how to do a backup of my 600 - to include all the plug-ins I've added and my keyfiles

If I decide to play about, I want to be able to re-flash it back to where I am at the moment as I've forgotten most of the tweaks I had to make to get my box working again

If you are using mrdudes noob image than you should be able to create a backup using the 'Backup& Restore' plugin on the image. the backup will be created on the internal hard drive assuming you have one installed in your dreambox.

You should not need to restart your box everytime there is a keyroll, restarting the cam every time there is a keyroll should the job.

Thanks for the backup tips Curious - I have got a HDD installed, so will give that a go.

It's annoying to restart the Cam, but I can't find any way to resolve it - is this normal?!

It does not matter which dreambox you have as you will need to restart the cam when there is a key update. Before you flash anything on to your box I would make a backup of the var/keys & var/scce folders from your dreambox as it will have the working keys for your dreambox oh and a copy of your services and bouquets using dreamboxedit.exe .

Never had to reboot my 500,occasionally get black screen on encryted channels for 60 secs then pic appears.
Checkout the RED stickies massive amount of info and effort been put into them.

I reckon this is a rom 10/7 issue. I would ensure you are using one rom. The preference is rom7 with evocam 2.17 i think. Either turn off all roms except 7 or delete the others from the image (ie 10 and 11 also the ram files) (make sure no .bak extensions either as these can get read apparently). I assume you have waited for at least 60 secs without doing the reboot (should not need to restart the cam?) My current image is picking up a bad quay every other roll on rom10. Have not bothered to identify why yet.

If you have Evocam 2.13 working than you should be fine with loading Evocamd 2.14. What I would do is leave Evocamd 2.13 as it is and load Evocamd 2.14 as well and than try making that your default cam. You might need to turn to S*y Sp1 to kick start it the first time round. Twice now since the BIG key roll I have come from work to find a black screen but as soon as I turned it to S*y sp1 and restarted the cam it cleared and than stayed cleared.

Press the 'Blue button' > Softcam Setup and this should show you what cam you currently have loaded on your dreambox. If you look closely you will see that you can load a particular cam for a particular provider and a particular cam for a particular channel. As you can see I am very particular about how load my cams.

You will also notice that you can have a default cam which is what will be loaded if you have not selected a special cam for the provider or the channel. The var on the DM600 is much bigger than the Dm500 so you can have more than one cam loaded.

Assuming that you have only got the Evocamd 2.13 loaded and you come out of this menu go back to the orignal Blue button menu.

Press Blue Button > Software management > Downloads > Softcams and Older softcams > Evocamd 2.14

This should now download and install Evocamd 2.14 cam for you automatically.

press Blue button > Softcam setup > default cam > Evocamd 2.14.

Now for all the channels if you have not selected a specific cam than it will load Evocamd 2.14
