    dm 600

i have a dm 600 pvr and i have installed a 160 gig SamSung drive the box is picking it up but when i go to format the drive it says its formatting this will take a few minutes it just stays like that any ideas.

The manual says jumper for cable but some in the forums say they just plugged there's in and they were able to format. or could it be it takes hours to format through the we Dreambox Any ideas ?????

It really depends on the hard drive & the image you are using..

Not all hard drives can be used for some reason, & some images do not have all the files to be able to format the drives.
(I know coz been there & tried some)

I also have got a dm600pvr and put in an old 20gig laptop drive that I had lying around, (noisy as hell), & had the same thing happen to me.
The drive could be seen but it would not format or be partitioned.
I even took my D-Box2 cable box apart, that has got a hard drive kit in it, & tried the 20gig hard drive it in there, (exactly the same thing happened), so swapped the hard drive from my D-Box2 into the DM600PVR and what do you know, (it worked).

For your information the hard drive that I had working in both boxes is a:

      "Samsung HM160HC" 160gig.

So if you can get one of those hard drives @ least you know it will work,
& it is worth it when you get it working, as it is great to be able to record from the EPG guide...

      Hope this has helped you

      Ian

Oh & by the way, the image that I am using in the Dm600 is (pli-jade3-dm600pvr-20090627-6494), from the pli site...

        Hi izar,

What is the Samsung 160gig model number?
No jumpers set on mine, which makes it set as (Master)

You want to try a Pli image in the box, I use a (pli-jade3), for Cable & Sat as I got both tuners..

        Hope this helps

        Ian

Shouldn't take any longer to format than it does on your pc. I have Pli Jade 3 running on my dm600 and had a similar problem though I did find that it had actually formatted the hdd even though it said on the screen 'formatting' for ages. I would just remove it from the dm600 and stick it in your laptop if possible and format the hdd and put it back inthe dm600.

to easy ive figured it out thanks all you folks its to easy when you finaly get it.

anyway in point form here I go rookie at it as I am.

            A) IDE/ATI 2.5 internall HD (mine is was 160 samsung)
            B) Used the Pli dm600 current flash on box
            C) once you get past all the rolling and sat config stuff
            D) Install your HD do not use cable config per DM book
            E) leave master, cable, slave jumper off of Hd it wants to be master.
            F) plug you IDE/ATI cable into your HD 1 is with the red strip goes in directly to the right of the 4 pins used for selecting master, cable, slave last pin is 43.
            H) Go to system settings chose harddisk setup and ok
            I) Should come up with your HD eg. Samsung **** master 160gig and ok
            J) here is where we all fall on our face because its a big secret ok on general settings and it will come up with a time box noted as 2 that is like in 2 minutes you need to change it to 30 then cursure over and change format speed to 160 save or back out
            K) now format Hd and say yes it will do its thing to easy.

note: I finaly figured it out when I sat close to the box and it would time out at exactly 2 minutes

I found some other anomalies with this box while configing but thats for another time.

Its never a bad thing to have a little help.

Glad you got it working, when I saw that you had a samsung 160gig I thought that you should ok, as it is the same as mine.

I have kept my (time out) @ 6 mins to help save the hard drive..
