DM500 Virgin have found out I have a Dreambox!

    Hi,
I went out this morning and a Virgin engineer came round to "register" my new modem. My daughter let him in and the they have obviously found my Dreambox as it is right next to the modem. The engineer went out and never said anything to my daughter, but as you can imagine I am absolutly s*****g myself. I have since disconnected everything but just want some advice on what they could do. Please reply with anything that might help.
    Thanks in advance.

dont worry about it m8. i doubt he'll say ~~~~ all i have v/m in my house and i asked for a splitter so i could have my s/v and vermin box hooked up together and the guy just said ok. the worse they can do is dsconnect you but i very much doubt that. at the end of the day its his word against yours. plus who's to say your not useing it as a freeview box. relax i reckon all will be well..maca..

Thanks for reply,as you can imagine I'm at my wits end so the kind words have helped somewhat. But all I can still think about is if they decide to prosecute! What would that entail? Fine/improsment?

they may send a letter to let you know that they know, but id say they would have to send someone round to check what the guy had told them was true first, just make sure they are not allowed to cross the doorstep. if someone cold calls just say it not appropriate at the min could you call back later and remove your gear before he does

You'll be fine matey, the dreambox has no talk back so unplugging it at the moment will do no good.

So get it back and and start watching your channels, the engineers will have dreamboxes too

Normally, what they do is if you dont have a virgin service in the house at all they usually randomly go from street to street, to the little green box at the end of the road & ping all the cable lines for a feed & cross off which house has subscription to "A" virgin account & those without get un hooked. you got your broadband so the chances are he wont say ~~~~ all bud. the engineer prob has one him self, they aint silly.

If something does come of it then....

Just plead ignorance, say you didnt know you wasnt allowed to use it, say you baught it from ebay or something & for all you knew it was a new style virgin box or something.. just blagg them but DONT ever admit you knew what it does or anything about it. or better still say you baught it from a guy at a local car boot fair when u were visiting family somewhere or something, thats if anything comes of it.

let us know how you get on.

Sister in law had the internet installed and did the same left the starview out in full view. The lad saw it and goes oh I've got one of them ,good arent they?

Shes in jail now for cable theft.

Nah nothing ever came back the installers are not arsed.

After reading your replies I'm quite calm now. I do have TV/Broadband/Phone so I hope they won't disconnect me,I can understand they would disconnect you if you weren't paying for any of their services,so fingers crossed. I've just got to try and calm the missus down now.
Once again thanks for the replies, this is a great site.

As long as the engineer did not try it to see if you are using it to receive illegal cable then there is nothing they can do. As you can say it's a hobby and you are using it for streaming to your pc as the dreambox can do more than just receive cable, that's if you hear anything back from them, also say that it only receives free-view. As long as there are no emu's or keys on your box then they cannot do nothing. Like peeps say most engineers have them as well so i would not worry......

dont VM outsource all installers plus I know an installer who did my neighbours house and got chatting with him, never mentioned I had a dreambox and I said "ohh its so bloody expensive to have all channels" and he goes to me "want a box that will give you all channels .. quoted me 150 notes" I didnt ask which one (most likely a Eurovox) but said I will let him know

the VM installers are more corrupt that us all

They are not bothered as long as you are paying for somet. They are bothered about people that don't pay and try to take it all. So don't worry they won't do nothing, the worst is they'll come back and try to come inside without a appointment. As somone said just don't let them in. they can't do shit without a warrant.

Same as the other replies mate, dont worry at all. A virgin eng. came to mine as we were moving rooms for the internet. He put some new cable in, noticed I had two dreamboxes. Never heard a word!
