DM800 Almost setup. Scanning for channels help.

    Hi

I've spend the last 4.5 hours reading up and trying to set up my DM800 cable box and can't seem to find all the info I need or an actual guide to setting it up anywhere?

    So far I've:

    Network / connected to internet
    Flashed with PLi image.
Transfered keys and scce folder contents over
Downloaded Plugin via browser on box: evocam 2.17 softcam

    Problems i have are

    1. I can't scan for channels. I've read I have to copy of the cable.xml file (which I've got from my dbox2) but I can't find any info on where to put it.

    2. Having downloaded the evocam i can't see how to activate it or check what cam is currently running.

Any help with this would be much appreciate as I'm getting a bit fed up with this now

I've now found that the cable.xml file (taken from my dbox2) goes in ftp://192.168.0.107/etc/tuxbox/

    When I go

Service Scan > Automatic Scan, I get the message

"Try to find used Transponders in cable network.. please wait...

XXXXXX KHz FAILED" - it runs through loads of different KHzz

    then I get the error

"ERROR - failed to scan (error starting scanning)!"

IF I exit during the scan I get the error

"Nothing to scan! Please setup your tuner settings before you start a service scan"

So looks like I haven't set up the tuner settings. Although I thought this is what the cables.xml did?

If someone could help out on how to scan for channels that would be great. Sure I'm just missing out something simple.

I managed to scan using the manual scan but you have to enter the freq an symbol rate and switch network scan to yes.

At the main menu go to service searching.
        Then go to Tuner Configuration
        press ok
then a reception setting should come up!!
Then go to frequency scan step size (khz)
set the scan step size to 01000
Set all the scan QAM to "yes"

press OK, go back to Auto scan and it should pick up all transponders
Remember when its scanning it will say failed most of the time

          Thanks for the replies

By doing setting the frequency scan step size (khz) to 01000, then setting the scan QAM to "yes" I still just get FAILED on all of the transponders and ERROR - failed to scan (error starting scanning)!

I figured out how to select the scan that i was originally looking for.

I went to "Used service scan type" and selected "Provider", then set "Provider to Scan" to "CableUK6887" (which is the right one).

When I scan with this it seems to go alot further and loads up to 100% but can't find any channels.

I changed the frequency to XXXX and can't remember what it was so maybe this is the problem? What should it be or does that not matter?

I don't suppose anyone has a working UK image I could install as all the images I've found need stuff installed manually.

          Thanks

            Bump :-(

Can someone please point me in the right direction.

Just tried to put another image on the box to try it and got an error meaning the box wouldn't boot up.

Am I right in saying if I just put an image on it such as PLi then add the cables.xml file and scan I should be able to pick up all the channels - although obviously only the fta one will work?

If only I could get that far then I'll worry about getting FTA channels.

Thanks a lot. Never seen that thread as it's quite new.

Put in 411 instead of 666 and it's now picking up all the channels.

Strange how it wouldn't when I put in the cables.xml file. Probably done something wrong though - but it defo recognised the cables file because bruteforce etc were showing up on the scan options.

Anyways off to try and get this working now. Scans pretty fast.

                  thanks again.

mmm seemed to good to be true. Didn't pick up all the channels. Got a lot of them. I'll worry about this later - poss scan down stairs as the signal is quite weak here.

Can't get the now fta files to work.

I ftp'd over the files from the scce and keys folder over to the var/keys and var/scce folders.

I then downloaded mgcamd 1.30d and don't get any non "fta" channels.

I can't see how to check if the cam is running which could be the problem. Also tried a couple of other cams with the same result.

When I go into soft came setup it says Softcam --None-- above where it says Cardserver. I take it that it should say the cam in there?

                    Help would be much appreciated.

                    Thanks in advance.

                      try this ftp
to var/ and delete the keys and scce files
then go in to usr/ delete any keys and scce file there as well
then ftp back to /usr/ and put your working keys and scce files in there
                      then
reboot then, restart what ever cam you using

Yeah I seen that in your other post and tried it but couldn't

                        a) find scce in the usr folder, although there was an empty keys folder in there

                        b) find out how to restart the cam / find if the cam is even running.

Can you advice how to find out if the cam is running / how to restart it.

                        Thanks

Wow. I'm embarrassed. I was just pressing OK on it and it was taking me back to the screen before. Pressed right and it appeared.

Came on almost instantly after I turned it on.

EPG is terrible on it though.

                            What image are you using?

I tried to put another couple of images on but just got ERR01 NO CAM or something like that and it then took an hour to flash it via serial cable which was a major PITA.
