DM500 Do I have to keep cable connected during ftp?

Hi guys, i've read a few guides and watched this video here [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B7IOS9Yd4oI]YouTube - DREAMBOX 500C TUTORIAL[/ame] which was helpful but it says when doing ftp with my dreambox 500c i need to connect the scart lead, power unit, cable feed and network cable all at once. I tried doing this with with the 'crossover cable' method but had no luck. Would i get away with not connecting the cable feed during ftp as the i'm going to try and connect straight to the router but its in a different room...
thanks in advance for helping this noob!

No cable feed needed during ftp.

As for no fta channels. You'd be better listing what you've done already to set up so someone can point out where you've gone wrong / what's wrong with it.

just plugged the box in and did an automatic scan, came back with nothing every time I tried. The dreambox is running on enigma.

Is there a cable signal coming through to your home. Also have you tried doing a scan using set your location, its found in the sub-menu. To ftp to your box using a crossover cable is simple mate. You just set your pc / laptop I.P. one below that of the box (ie: pc/laptop 192.168.0.22 - dreambox 192.168.0.23)

Forget the base image supplied with the box, download 1 from in here and use that.
Checkout the RED stickies massive amount of info and effort been put into them.

i just tried the pli jade3-enigma 1 image. used telnet and had no problems at all, dreambox is working fine but when ever I do an automatic search I have 2 transponders to choose between (SR6875 and SR6900) and after a scan both bring back the message 'All known transponders have been tried, but no lock was possible. Verify antenna-/cable-setup or try another satellite/network.

I have an old telewest box in the living room that gets the fta channels as the tv contract expired a long time ago but I still get the internet/phone from virgin so feed is alright. Any suggestions? Would it be worth trying another image, the dk image perhaps? or just keep on scanning in the hope I get a 'lock' and 'sync' eventually...?

Try one of these in downloads here which are the uk image's which will have scan options UK6952 or 6887, and a brute force scan for your area, as for the SR6875 and SR6900 i have no idea what area they are for but dont think they are for uk.....,

ITgate TGM220 (swapable tuner), Dreambox 800 pro, Dreambox 500c x 2, DBox, Popbox media player.
