I'm considering flashing my 500c with the gemini 4.2 image but have heard it has somewhat detrimental effects on 500c clones. How can I tell if my 500c is a clone or not? I thought these were open source?
the best bit of advise is dont there are better images out than the gemini that wont brick your box.The chances are you have got a clone as they dont make the 500c any more.QuickTip - Check the serial number on the packaging with the serial number on the label underneath the receiver. The serial numbers used by clones rarely match any of the packaging.Another common problem with clones is the Network Chip MAC address printed on the packaging label does not match the MAC on the label of the receiver or the address on the network chip. This can be confirmed simply by starting a telnet session via lan with the DM500 (user:root) (pw:dreambox) and entering the command "ifconfig". The real MAC address for the ethernet chip will be displayed for you to confirm against the packaging. If its real it will start with 00:09:34
if you see mac No. start 00 09 34 xx xx xx then if you install gemini image from pc then simple check setup > Blue-panel>system Infos > user Script > ipconfiq Show Start. Here u can see the detail. If Hwadd 00 09 34 xx xx xx then it is original
