router to dreambox

    router to dreambox

    hi i want to connect a router to the dreambox but i have only got a o2 usb mobile modem. i know there is routers out there for this but they look expensive. has anyone got a link to a reasonable one thats ok for this job? many thanks.
    is it a bird?......is it a plane?.....NO ITS MY CHEAP CLONE FROM CHINA GOING OUT THE ~~~~ING WINDOW.

    they are all expensive m8, you dont get cheap ones plus the broadband connection is usually not very good i would advise you to go with a decent service provider, and get yourself a free wireless router as most of them provide it for free now, hope this helps m8

      thanks m8 but i,m living in a very rural area so i dont have a choice. landline was a spur off a spur and i kept getting cut off every 5 mins or so. the 3g i have now is a lott faster.
      is it a bird?......is it a plane?.....NO ITS MY CHEAP CLONE FROM CHINA GOING OUT THE ~~~~ING WINDOW.

        i found this one mate and its only 85 euros i dont know how much that is but its cheaper than the standard at ?250 hope this helps you m8

          What other sorts of computers have you got? Have you got a spare network interface on your modem's PC? If so, you could probably just set up network sharing with a crossover cable. Do you want the dreambox on the internet, or just a connection between PC and dreambox?

          If you have a spare small PC, you could even set it up as a dedicated router.

          edit: Things may be even cheaper (if you want to have a play with linux). From what I can tell, the O2 usb modem is a Sierra Wireless device. If it is, then it's supported in linux, so you could use a standard router with custom firmware. It wouldn't be easy to set up, but it'd be an interesting project. A suitable router would be something like this, on which you would install OpenWRT. Of course, this might not be what you want, since it's most definitely NOT plug and play.

            Is your modem wireless? Could you get a wireless bridge to connect to it?
