    DM500 DM500C recording

This may seem a silly question to some but could you simply plug the scart lead from a Dreambox into a recordable dvd or video recorder and do a direct recording from the Dreambox to dvd or video ?
I am totally new to these boxes so excuse me if the question sems a little naive.

Well, try as i might i cannot get anything to record on my dvd recorder. All i get is around 1second of the programme endlessly repeating itself.
Do i need to setup anything on the 500c to be able to record ? If so what ?
If it should be straight forward, any ideas why the selected channel wont record ?
          Thanks in advance guys.

Honestly, its the exact same way as pluggin in any other set top box like an original cable box or a freeview box... so it must be something wrong with the connection or the dvd recorder settings.

Can you watch the dreambox channel though the dvd recorder ok? (e.g. select the dvd recorder channel on the tv, then select the dreambox channel on the dvd recorder)

When watching the selected channel through the dvd recorder all i get is the same as when trying to record,ie,the same 1 or 2 seconds of the same frame endlessly looping.I have connected with top quality gold plated scart leads all round but still the same. The connection is the same as when i had VM cable connected, all i did was take out one box and install the other,so i know none of the connections have changed.
              Puzzled !!!

                Definitely Strange!!!

What if you take out the scart which is plugged into the dvd recorder and plug it directly into the tv? Can you view the channels normally? If this works then its nothing to do with the dreambox, must be something with the connection/dvd recorder.

I can view the channels in this way.I have the scart from the dream box to the input on my dvd recorder, then another from the output of the recorder to my tv.I can watch channels on tv through the recorder even with the recorder turned off, they just will not record. The setup is exactly as it was for vm box.

So just to confirm you can watch dreambox channels through the recorder (whether it be switched on or off) but can't record?

Definitely sounds like its something to do with the recorder (e.g. disks, settings etc). The only other thing it could be is that the channel you are trying to record is protected but I have never had a problem with this.

Cheers hotbaws11,i will try and find the manual for my recorder to see if anything can be altered. But as it was "factory set" for differing input sources i don't hold out much hope, all i have to do is press a button to select the different input source and the recorder is supposed to do the rest.
                      Thanks for the responses,much appreciated.

You could always try another recording system like a vcr or another dvd recorder to totally rule out everything else. That way you know its definitely your dvd recorder... (or not!)

Alas i don't have another recording system available to me.And as i suspected the inputs are factory set and cannot be re-tuned on my dvd recorder.I guess i'm stuck !!
