i was just wondering what the bits on the original skin represent i.e the key symbol and coloured circles on the right hand side

They represent that channels broadcast...

KEY: means encrypted
CIRCLES:I think mean stereo or SRS
SQUARE:means widescreen
LINES: I think mean teletext or subtitles

The coloured circles(red/yellow/blue/green) are for EPG and plugins menus
