    Missing Sky 1

I was missing Sky 1 and Shed, I've done a rescan (Bruteforce) and now have Shed plus all movies and sports BUT still no Sky 1.Am I doing something wrong?
    I am in Bristol.

I now have Sky 1 back, I have always scanned "Bruteforce for UK", I tried the next one down "CableSym6952" and scanned it.
        Now I have Sky 1.
What have I done? Have I done the right thing?

Automatic scans are only as good as the cables.xml file they use. If the transponder frequencies to some channels in your region are missing from that file you won't find them with any automatic scan.

Always worth trying a manual transponder scan with network search. Rather than relying on a fixed list of frequencies to try it uses the network information transmitted with the EPG data to work out the frequencies of transponders. As this information is being constantly updated it makes sense to try this once in a while.

On Enigma based images you go to a working channel and press:

          Menu->Setup->Service Searching->Manual Transponder Scan

Select the "network search" option and then press green (start scan) and sit back.

All Enigma based images I've used have a few bugs in them WRT scanning on UK cable networks because VM are a closed network and do not 100% follow the specs.

Thanks alexh for taking time to help, very good with the little picture. I'm doing it now.
It found 2 new transponders; 15 new tv services.
Do I need to scan with Bruteforce or thats it?
BTW, whats the difference with Bruteforce and the others?

To add, I lost a few channels, disovery science, realtime realtime +1, so I rescanned with cablesym6952 and got them back plus a few others (15).

              Did you get SKY1 though?

Nope. That should be it. Check your "all channels" list against the VM list of all channels to make sure you're not missing any.

Absolutely nothing. Despite its name it is not an algorithmic bruteforce search. It is just a list of frequencies and symbol rates. If a frequency/symbol rate pair is missing from the bruteforce section of your cables.xml I don't believe you'll get the channels on that transponder using a bruteforce scan.

The others are usually sub-sets of bruteforce list, i.e. cablesym6952 only has symbol rates of 6952.

Crappy bugs in (all?) Enigma images when used with VM. Seems to parses the VM network information tables incorrectly and it usually ends up with the missing channels being incorrectly listed at the top of the "all services" list under a strange name. Following a network search it makes sense to look at the top of this list and select any strange channels, leave it on that channel for a few minutes (even if they are blank) before opening the all services list once more and one by one they will be correctly identified as TV channels.

I add my favourite channels to a bouquet. Bouquets are permanent. Even if a channel is deleted from the "all services" list (perhaps due to a search) the entry will still be there in the bouquet.

If after a search a channel has been lost, go the the bouquet entry. It will be listed as (service removed) and within a few minutes of being on that channel the software will read the network information for that transponder and find all the channels on that transponder and update the "all services" list.

Using a mixture of manual transponder scan with "network search" and bouquets I am able to maintain a full list of all channels.

Why on earth there is no "add channels" where it searches and only adds new channels and doesn't remove others I dunno. It is made worse because the "network search" option will delete any channels from the "all services" list if it does not find them.
