Cheapest place to get a dreambox?

    Hi,
I'm pretty new to this whole thing and was wondering if you guys have like a site or know of places where I can get a dreambox cheap?

I know N3 will probably mean I won't have long with VM to get the channels, but I was hoping I would have a couple of months at least (being as I live in Norfolk, which isn't the most technologicaly advanced county!)

I was wanting something pretty easy to setup and use, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Mark

N3 trials are happening now. If history is anything to go by once they are over VM will roll it out over the entire country overnight.

Really? I would have guessed they would have done it region by region - that's a shame if they do roll it out overnight!
Well I was hoping if I managed to get one quite cheap then even over one or two months it would pay for itself!

Dreambox could well be obsolete by the time VM get to Norfolk

Many thanks for the PM Oadbylad.

Would you guys recommend the 500C?

Hoping it would be a simple 'plug and play' one where I don't have to do much fiddling about, but if I did i'm sure the guides on here would help!

The 500c is a good box mate. If u have no experience of them at all then there is a lot of great info on this forum (read the stickies) and the folk here are very helpful.

For ease of use, something like the eurovox is more of a plug-and-play box though, relatively simple to set up etc. It is not linux based though.

If i was you, with changes coming... it might be worth your while to check out a sat system (500s) though. After all, if you are starting from scratch, then it might be best to do all that research and work for sat, rather than cable.

And as billy says, a dual box would give u the best of both worlds (but a lot of reading up to do!).

              Hope that helps mate.

They seem quite expensive - i'd probably go for a dreambox or something similar as I preferably wanted something ~?50

They have never done that with any previous security changes. They usually have a trial in one area and when it is finished roll out to the entire country in one go.

I think it has been two weeks (?) since the start of the trial in Leeds. If N3 roll out does not require issuing of new cards (??) then I guess they could switch any day now. Otherwise as soon as people start getting replacement cards in the post the change will be imminent.

Cheapest not always best! My boxes come from DVBSeller and cost just under ?54. Use DREAMUP (free download) to flash the box using a computer running Windows XP with a 9pin null modem cable (mine came from MISCO and cost ?4 plus carriage). This works every time so don't be tempted by anything from e-bay.
                        Good luck and enjoy.

Guys for what its worth, ALL cable (NON-Linux) boxs will be usless when virgin goes n3. The best box to buy is is ONLY the dm500c to start with as when virgin goes n3, you will still be able to cardshare on it. So the dm500c can still be used while all the others can not.

And I have to agree with Heatblast, dvbseller.com has never let me down yet on price or service, so would recommend.
