    Is DB500c obsolete?

Hello. Do you think that it be worth buying a DB500c or is it an obsolete thing and deserves more spare the money for an HD800 or something like that?

you can get a clone one, or maybe a second hand original from somewhere.

They are still good boxes, but getting a bit old now.

an 800 will set you back over ?300

if you dont want to go to the expense of the 800 there is allways the 600 pvr or the open media (which has sat and cable)or the 7025+(again sat and cable or 2 cable or 2 sat)or as aftermath says a clone 500 or second hand

I read about a plug-in for DB500c to autoscroll the cable channels when changed the keys by the operator. Anybody tried that?

youll get a cloned 500 from dvbseller.com dirt cheap or a 600 but it doesnt have interchangeable tuners.

The 500c will always be around, just look at the dbox2, they stopped making them about 1995 . The 500 has the most support I think so you always get to use it.

@pixapo, not sure what you mean, the images for UK cable auto update the keys automatically when they change, no need for a plugin, it's part of the emu.

I've just worked out the cost comparisons..

                DVBSeller CHINA,
the cost is ?39.99 plus 24.00 postage
                Total: ?63.99 NO WARRANTY.
Delivery: 7-10 days on the ?24 postage option.

                UK Seller like BuyingThings.co.uk
the cost is ?64.99 plus 10.00 postage
Total: ?74.99 WITH 12 MONTH WARRANTY
& its OEM so you cant be done for copy of a genuine product.
                Delivery: a few days.

UK Sellers like BuyingThings.co.uk are around ?10 more but a peace of mind when it comes to warranty don't you think?

Think you should also factor in how long the hack has got left?who knows but i would'nt go spunking 200-300 notes on a box.
Checkout the RED stickies massive amount of info and effort been put into them.

Certainly not from answering the question at the top...

dbox's have lasted this long and the 500c still has plenty of years to go (especially with all the support now after a slow start when dbox support was in its prime!)

Ok the cable companies could do something nasty but hopefully there will always be a fix sooner or later as I think most of the boxes will be in the same situation.

Price is also a big goer for the (clone) 500c... less than ?80 with quick delivery from buyingthings.co.uk

                            First rule of telecommunication

I think the Dreambox 500c will be around for a long time to come as if a signal can be transmitted it can be recieved and if it can be recieved it can be decoded and as long as there are bright sparks floating around there will always be a fix for any decoding issues.

If you look at Buythings it says "This product is shipped from China and can take from 7-10days". Are they actually UK based or selling from china??
