yeah i read that about them but the cable defo a null that i got?
was worried it was when i read in features All lines wired straight through

I assume you are trying to flash a dreambox.
Spec looks ok but, having had the same problem using Vista, I reverted to Windows XP and gave up on USB-serial. It seems that Herr Gates has decreed that Vista will not recognise anything that cannot pass the Windows compatibility test (probably because he has no control over it and therefore cannot make money!).
I reverted to a 9pin F/F null modem cable from Misco (available on-line and costs ?4.01 plus carriage: part number 154505).

save yourself the headache get an old desktop with the nine pin com port and away you go , to be fair i tried the same with usb null cable to no avail as above i went old school and it worked like a dream,pardon the pun goodluck.
