i have not a clue... as I mentioned before though. I seem to be able to work with flashwizard pro. as thats what allowed me to install the info file before it became unresponsive. dreamup never ever worked for me... if I can figure out the ip of my box I can then remove and start again

Flash wizard pro uses ethernet to flash the box, dreamup uses null modem cable.

Although you bought the cable from dvbseller, it still may be faulty. Do any of your mates have one that you could try that they know works? And of course it could be the dreambox that's faulty. Email the seller and tell them your situation, it's best that you keep them informed of what's wrong and what you're doing. They will advice what to do with regards to sending the stuff back.

            Edit:

Just checked dvbsellers site...~~~~ me...?5.99 for a null modem cable...you can get them on ebay for under ?2.

2m 6ft Serial Null Modem Cable DB9F to DB9F RS232 6' on eBay, also, Serial Cables, Cables Connectors, Computing (end time 01-Aug-08 12:09:48 BST)

ha yeh. I know... but it was just the quick and easy option. i'll pop out and buy another null cable as none of my friends have one... I already asked.

I was wondering though if anyone knew what the default ip was for these boxes. Cause the plan is to atleast get the machine to boot back up with the menu before I tried to install the image using flashwizzard... is this at all possible?

The DK v1 image is set for DHCP - ON as default so you will need to check your router settings to see what the ip address is (if you're connected to a router).

If the remote is unresponsive and the green led doesn't blink then the box is frozen on boot and the only way you can fix it is by using dreamup, flash wizard pro is no use to you now and you won't be able to connect via ftp either.

Go and buy another null modem cable from maplin, if it works, put the one from dvbseller in the box and take it back claiming you bought the wrong one and have now ordered one from ebay .

Hehe...well done! If you've got a working null modem cable and dreamup, you'll never be affraid to try anything .

haha indeed... thanks again. Im in South East London and trying to work out the next part now. On Virgin Media and what service to scan with.... this could easily turn into the dummies guide thread if there isnt one available...

                      <--Sig-gotyouth added 156 Minutes and 18 Seconds later...-->

                      UPDATE:

I was able to scan with Bruteforce uk option. This gave me a list of channels but mostly with the exception of SSxtra and BBC1 the channels were just black screens.

I then connected my dreambox sucessfully with FlashFXP and have read the tutorial whcih was extremley helpful... but... I have nothing in my scce or key folders... so whats the next step to obtaining these files...?

btw. I am writing up a dummies guide as I go along if you so wish to publish it later on.

                      UPDATE 20.34

with the kind help of Father Ted I have been able to get this far....

I have put the dk v1.img on the dreambox
I then scanned under Bruteforce uk

this got me a whole channel list with a few channels clear and able to view... including some diseny channels, sky sports xtra and a sky movies channel showing up under the BBICS Channels. I also got a few more including bbc 1 audio description...

Then I copied the keys and roms into the dreambox's keys folder via FlashFXP... then overwriting the rom7 file with another rom7 file instructed by Father Ted.

I rebooted the dreambox left on bbc 1 audio description for 5 mins then switched to sky sports 1 and waited, and waited but nothing happened....

any ideas... help is much needed. Im so near I can taste it... thanks in advance

Go to Sky Sports 1, hold down INFO and the EMU Manager will come up.

Press OK and it will restart the EMU, the keys should auto update and the channel should come on after about 1 minute.
