    Dreambox and HDTV

Hi all, I hope you can help me.

I recently bought a dbox2, which I'm happy with. However, the picture quality is not the best on a 40 inch Toshiba HDTV (1080) and there is no pvr (I used to use a sky+ box). So my question is:

Can I get a cable/sat box that can give HDTV and pvr features (like sky+)? I have seen the dreambox 800, but it's a little pricey.

I have been looking at the skystar2 HD card, but I would prefer a 'box' sitting under my TV at a reasonable price.

    Any help?

The only HD receivers are the DM800 and the IPBox 900HD.

      Both have PVR options.

If you can live without the HD, you can also get the DM600-PVR or Eurovox EX5000PVR. Oh and I think there's a starview pvr receiver out too.

The main 2 for the HDMI at the mo..

IPbox9000, 2 tuners of your choice, you can have 2 sat, 2 cable or have 1 sat and 1 cable tuner. A bit expensive , but looks like its the Dogs at the moment,it can also take an Internal SATA hard drive, or an external hard drive, It has USB ports, so you can flash it using a USB memory stick or even transfer files to and from box will set you back approx 600 euros.

Or you could wait until December/January , Dreambox are bringing out a DM8000, dont get this confused with a DM800, ive seen pics of the 8000, and it also has a built in DVD player. This will be priced around 700 euros.

The Dreambox 800, has a DVI connection ( not HDMI ) you get a lead which enables you to plug into you HDMI socket on tv, this box will set you back around ?350

Thanks all. I guess I can wait until the new year and perhaps by then there will be more competition on these HDTV boxes and thus, lower prices.

          Once again, thanks

I was going to buy a DM8000 but I would rather build a quad core media center with sat tuners, 2 x 500GB HDDs and 2GB ram. Motherboard with 7.1 surround and HDMI output that way I have a PC to watch my blue-ray and HD movies as well as my sat channels

Currently bought a 500c for the time being. Saw a friend with the setup as above and it works fantastically well! Cost him ?400, not much really when you look at the dreambox with HD capability

Not a lot, for a lot. Could be the future. Or maybe the next boxes will come with that spec for HD,,,when its worth it that is. There isnt a lot going for HD at the moment.
