    Dreambox / Which one

    Hello,

Wanted to enquire about the Dreambox's. Looked at both the 500c vs 800HD,

I would pref. HD box in which i could also stream. Would the 800 be better?

I've used the Nokia DBOX2's, and need a new box so instead of getting another DBOX2, looking at my other options.

Hello and welcome to the forum. i would not buy any cable boxes as they will all be useless in about two to three months.

That may be so, but for ?50 you only need to get 2 months out of it and it has more than paid for itself

Why not spend your 50 on a sat version, can do alot more than just freeview!
Not sure if the 800hd has removable tuner, if it has, my advise buy a sat tuner as well, not much life left in cable!

That is what we all say or think but how many of us are actually prepared to do that?

The DM800 does come with 'Plug-&-Play' tuner, so you could go for the DVB-C cable tuner now (this is NOT a DVB-C2 HD tuner BTW), then swap over for a DVB-S2 satellite tuner (this is HD!) if and when you desire (probably best to purchase the 2 tuners at the same time if you can afford to!).

On a sat version? As in Satalite? i.e. B$KYB?

I assume the reason it wont work in 2/3 months is because of the new update to 3?

              Whats the "Sat" Version about?

I recently got a dm800 clone (i know there not everybodies cuppa ) purchased from manufacturer in china , i also bought a seperate cable tuner with it , I`ve now got it setup with cable tuner , and when eventually that goes down , i have my sat tuner to install , so alls i`ve "lost" is the cost of the tuner , about ?15 , and i`ve already had more than one month out of it , total cost was ?180 inc p+p with both tuners . This seems the most sensible solution to the imminent N3 upgrade by Virgan media ,

Also if C/S is ever an option with cable , my box can flip back

Sorry if this is a complete noob question, but I was planning on picking up a 500c, why will they be useless in 2-3 months? I've had a little look online but I can only assume it's some sort of update to vm's encryption perhaps?
