DM500S Without Card

Hi,

I am new to this forum. Gone through various posts but could not find the answer.

Can I use DM500S without a card? If yes, can any please assist on what to do as A to Z guide?

So far I have been using Starview in which I just flash the software through null modem cable (or USB) and it's ready to fly. Can something similar be done with DM500S?

you can just flash on an image using a prog called dream up along with that null modem cable and you can run a scan once connected to the sky dish on the wall that most houses today already have, only problem is you wont get many channels to open you would have to cs for that which is strictly taboo here at dk use google for info on this, you can however set up a motorised dish and get alot of european channels some with english commentary

Yes but not in the same way you use your S/V, your looking at card sharing its not allowed on here but google it and there is info out there , hope this helps .

It's indeed a useful information for me and I was not aware of that.

So is this correct that DM500 do not work with Cable? and only work with dish?

Certainly I am not looking for card sharing. What is the most common of use of DM500? Is it something like flasing image file using dreamup and then connect with SKY or motorized dish? What's the role of card?

Sorry for very basic questions but I am new to Dreambox.

if you just want the free channels theres no need for a card at all but if you want to cs with someone they will want you to share your card and you share theres so you have double the channels, or you can go to a payserver and purchase a small share in theres but thats not recommended. as i said earlier it cannot be discussed any more than that here you would need to find a site that specialises in this

Sorry to bother you with stupid questionw but is this correct that this box will only work with dish and not with Cable?

I have got both at home but not sure if I need to connect it my SKY dish or with Cable?

The dream 500s is for sattalite and the dream 500c is for cable.

My box does not show any thing in front. Only DVB. When I opened it then on the main circuit board I see "DM500S 2007 Rev 8.0". Is it safe to assume that it is a Satellite Box?

I was going through the detailed document from Chimaera. As per front and back end pictures of the DM500 in that document, the rear of my box matches with DM500C becasue it is with ANT In/Out {unlike DM500S which should have LNB In/Out}

Confused again !! ports at rear suggest it is for Cable where as mother board is etched with DM500S.

Shall I try it on both Cable and Dish and see on which source it works? Is there any danger of damage by putting Cable Box on Satellite and vice versa?

dont connect any cable just switch the box on the goto menu/information/about then you'll know what you have my guess its cable

yes bud correct
