    DM600 Hard drive won't format?

    Hi guys,

Using PLi Jade Image on the DM600... the software recognises the hard drive but when you go to format it says.

"Formatting hard drive, please wait for some minutes."

Does this for ages, tried again over night and no change... anything I'm doing wrong I need this sorted before the weekend!!

    Any help much appreciated

    Thanks

Go to Menu > Setup > Harddisk settings > General settings > change number 5 or 10. Retry formatting hard drive again.

        Thanks for the reply,

Was that for sleep time or acoustics?

I'll check the IDE cable soon, what system does it need formatting to? (if I can find a laptop for it).

          It's a 160GB Samsung HM160HC

Tried another 40GB I took out from a dead laptop.

Again it recognises it, but when it came to formatting it just sticks at the same screen.

            What I've tried:

Setting jumper as either Cable Select or Master
Trying IDE cable both ways round
Changing the sleep time on hard drive general settings

Could it be a bad IDE cable?

Try changing the sleep time as the drive goes to sleep before it has finished formatting the hard drive.

                    Ok chaps
thought id share this with you. When trying to format the hard drive for the 20th time i had the same result.Message stuck on screen "formating hard drive this may take some minutes please wait".Only on this occasion i tried to record something on bbc 1 and the dream box said it was recording?
So i looked in the files and it was there also and played back. All still with message the message on the screen.I then rebooted the dream box, entered file mode and the recording was still there.Hard drive reads initalized and it all seems to be working. The point is try to record somthing even if the formating message stays up on the screen.
                    Worked for me.
WD 320g hard drive pli jade image.

Thanks for the replies guys, been a busy few weeks I forgot to check this thread.

Okay so in the end I found multiple solutions.

Smaller 40GB hard drive wouldn't format (Already had a FAT32 Partition on it) so I logged on using telnet and typed

                      mkfs.ext3 /dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part1

                      That sorted it out fine.

Tried on the bigger 160GB Samsung and it didn't work! So in the end I found a USB adapter and plugged the HDD into my PC. I used PartedMagic (30MB bootable Linux CD - News) and formatted it that way.

Plugged it in and works fine.
