Censored by ebay - so where can I sell a D500c

    Hi all,

I know selling is not allowed on these fine forums, so please bear with me.

I've just had my 500c listing removed from ebay as it is against their 'electronics' policy. So where can I go to sell it?

All ideas welcome, I had 18 people watching it so I know the buyers are out there...

Is there a decent ebay alternative nowadays - I've lost touch with it all to be honest.

    You could try gumtree.
I would list it again and then when you get some watchers send them a message. When ebay pull the listing you maybe able to sell it to them out of ebay (and not pay the fees!)

You can sell it on flee bay as long as you dont mention the obvious.

Just list as used or new with the specs and put something like this at the end to comply with their rules.

I'm sure if you're reading this then you already know what this box can do.
I must however remind buyers that this is sold as a Free To Air box and should be used for recieving FTA channels.

There are plenty of other dm500's on ebay so I guess it is just a wording issue. Gumtree is the only other real competitor, however as there are currently none for sale in my area, I guess they may have a policy of removing them if they feel it violates their user policy also

avforums have a classified section , free too , noticed a couple of eurovox`s on there the other day , payment usually by bank transfer or paypal gift so no extortionate fees .

as for others for sale on ebay , i know sellers of sly viewing cards were reporting new listings of cards , in order to bump up there own price ,

It is all dreamboxes are banned from Ebay or at least that is what they say. There are auctions still going but there seems to be some bum info about. Below (start at the bottom) are some emails between myself and Ebay.

            Hello Kelly,

Thanks for getting in touch again about the Dreamboxes that are not
allowed to be sold on the site. Let me assist you further.

I understand that these boxes are not illegal in the UK but please
understand that currently we do not allow the sale of dreamboxes on the
site. However, please be assured that we are always pleased to hear from
members of the eBay community and welcome their comments regarding our
services and I assure you that we are committed to the continuous
improvement of our website to make it both a fun and safe place to trade
and if there is a policy change then you will get to know it through the
            announcement board.

Rest assured, the policy remains the same for all the sellers on eBay
and if there would have been a similar item listed by some other seller,
we would have taken the same action on it.

If you have further doubts please do not hesitate to get back in touch.

            Kind regards,

            Greg Geer

            Message: Hello Greg,

Thanks for your reply. Whilst I respect Ebay policys, I think it is
somewhat extremely misguided, as any PC can be used to view cable or
satellite pay tv broadcasts direct yet Ebay still allow the sale of
PC's. A modem can be used to view illegal broadcasts of TV on the
internet. I think I could go on and on with the amount of things that
are sold legitemately on EBay but could be used to break the law.

The equipment (dreambox) is not illegal in any way in the UK and as so
should be allowed to be sold. If you know the equipment you will also
know that it can be used for legitimate purposes, and I and many others
prefers these STBs (set top boxes) for FTA or legitimate subscription to
Pay TV because of the amount of extras you can do with them.

You can stream video and mp3 between PCs on your network and the STB,
and vice versa. They can be used as a DVR. THey are so much better, and
not in any such way illegal in the UK.

I would ask you to reconsider your policy and allow the sale of these
            boxes.
The dreambox is a standard Satellite
receiver the same as the Technomate etc.

            Thanks for the reply.

            Kelly

            Hello Kelly,

My name is Greg and I'm happy to resolve your query about the removal of
the Dreamboxes that you were bidding on.

I understand that the boxes are normal satellite receivers but we do not
allowed to list items that can be used to decode encrypted transmissions
or allow access to cable, digital terrestrial or satellite television
without authorisation or payment. These items are illegal in Ireland
under the Irish Broadcasting Act. This policy includes NTL, Telewest and
            Virgin Media Cable boxes.

Thank you again for your email. I hope I've explained our policy clearly
for you. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.

            Kind regards,

            Message: Hello,

I am wondering why auctions for Dreamboxes
keep getting removed? These boxes are normal standard everyday
satellite receivers that are better then Freeview, Freesat or BSkyB
            reveivers?

I have bidded on a few and they have been removed so I would like to
            know why?

            Thanks.

            Kelly

Do not comment usage, just put the name and mention the accessories.

Thanks all, Kelly has it, I think. I read the rules and they certainly changed since I last sold anything. ebay have just this morning taken my old NTL box off the site too.

The bottom line is that the rules clearly state that dreamboxes and equivalent are not allowed to be sold - its not down to legality, its down to ebay rules, and as a private site, why not!

                Bummer though.

I received further clarification from Ebay today, see email below.

                  Hello Kelly,

Please understand that we have legal agreement with Virgin to remove
items reported by them. We'll be able to remove the other 50 dreambox
listings only if they are reported to us by Virgin Media..

I trust this information was helpful and I wish you all the best for
                  future trading on eBay.

                  Kind regards,
