    DM500 Help what image?

    hi,

Right i've just purchased a dreambox 500c (for virgin media)

From reading so many threads this is what i understand and as i am an idiot guy please tell me if anything i will be doing will be wrong because i've read that people have bricked their dreamboxs by doing it wrong!

i understand that i need to use dreamup software (which i've got)

I'm using a null modem cable which i will be using to connect the dreambox to my pc

once connected i shall erase whatever thats on the dreambox already right?

then i need to flash an image on it.

    then dissconnect the leads

connect dreambox to my tv do a search and i should get all the channels inc sports movies pay per view ones aswel (hopefullly)

The only problem i've got is i don't have an image?

can anyone suggest an uk image i should put on there?
I would really prefer an image that someones tried and its worked and an image that doesn't need anything else done to it because i really don't understand how to put things like keys and codes onto the dreambox all that seems to complex.

    Thanks

    Jason

This is the home DK1 image so the image that you want is the Digital Kaos Image for the UK. Once you have flashed the image you disconnect the leads and than connect your box to your router if you have one and than copy the 'special ' files from Devilfish's link . Do a complete scan for all the channels, install cam/emu Evocam 2.13 turn it S*y sports and hope it clears the channel.

what happens when i connect my dreambox to my wireless router, do i need any software to transfer the "special files" over?

do i connect my dreambox to my wireless router using a standard RJ45 ethernet cable or do i need to buy a crossover ethernet cable?

      Thanks

You will need a straight through ethernet cable to connect your dreambox to your router. You will need a crossover cable only if you intend to connect your pc directly to your dreambox.

I don't know about firezilla but I use coreftp program to copy my files from my computer to to my dreambox. Coreftp is similar to using Windows explorer for copying your files.

Filezilla is a doddle. Click File, then Site Manager. Create a new site, give it the IP address of the Dreambox, login type is normal, enter root for the username, dreambox for the password.

Once you've saved that, you should be able to connect to the Dreambox. If you have trouble, open a DOS window and ping the Dreambox's IP address to make sure you've got the networking set up properly.
