    chmod attributes

im a bit confused about setting the attributes to the var/keys var/scce files.
whats confusing is the number some say 777, others say 755 and others say leave it as it is.
what do you guys have it set at,
the files devilfish has links to [db magic files] has the attributes set to 664/ or 667 i think
    i have a dm500c, on dk v1.1 image
    im in east london
    cheers

755 it is, for 'executeable' files. But you're not referring to files, you're talking about folders and symlinks, which you shouldn't mess with in terms of chmod attributes!

In dbox2, (and I bet the same applies to DM), no files inside /var/keys folder need changing from their default chmod 644 status. No executables in there.

The 'folder' named /var/scce is not a real folder, but a symlink (Symbolic Link) - and this is given chmod 777 by default. Certain cams expect to find the (chmod 644) rom files in there. So this symlink just redirects the cam to /var/keys where the roms really live. But the cam 'thinks' it's found the roms in /var/scce

All smoke and mirrors stuff, LOL! Whichever folder your cams live in, these are the files that MUST be set to chmod 755 otherwise they simply won't work! As they are executeable files, so cannot 'execute' if left at the default 644 setting, where they have insufficient 'write' rights!

        Cheers- AL

just to clarify i need to chmod the var/scce files only NOT the var/keys. is that right?
its just that im reading elsewhere on the forums that both need to be chmod to 755/777
          thanks
