you can add a hard drive in a 600 for recording on, and has more memory to take larger images and addons. Also you can buy an additional tuner so you can use it for sat or cable.

if you shop around , i am sure you can get a clone 600 for about ?130.
A 500 clone ( or different type boxed 500 ) about ?60.

difference of ?70

I agree with you that it might be pointless paying the extra , unless you want it to record on or in the future , change tuners.
