Hello all, im new to this forum, just got a couple of problems i hope you can help me with. i have a dreambox 500 and a v+ box. there both connected via a splitter. dreambox is working fine, just a few channels keep disconnecting, saying service not available, when i go to another channel and then back again it willbe working?any ideas? also when i use my v+ box, the guide or info doesn't appear. you cannot see what channel you are typing in and also cannot record. basically the only way i can use my v+ box is by typing the channel in and looking at the v+ to see what number it is on. any ideas how to get it back to normal? Also i hear that the dreamboxes wont be working with virgin media in the not too distant future, whats this all about? thanks in advance

It's not normal for the DM500 to lose channels like that unless it is struggling with the input level. What happens if you remove the splitter altogether and try each box in turn? If they both function correctly, then it would point to a faulty splitter or too much signal loss through the splitter.
The VM service has already been changed in the Leeds area so that the premium channels have much stronger encryption. Dreamboxes are not able to deal with this strong encryption and so the only channels they are able to display are the Free To Air (FTA) ones such as BBC1, BBC2, ITV1 etc.
The new strong encrytion is known as Nagra3 or N3 and there is currently no "hack" for it. Changing the encryption in the Leeds area was a "trial" for VM but it seems to have been successful and it is expected that this stronger encryption will be rolled out nationwide on the VM network in the next few months. You should get some warning about this because you should receive a new card from VM beforehand to use in their box. When the new encryption kicks in, your Dreambox will stop showing premium channels.
