    Sorted guys.

Managed to record through timer event.

is there a quick way to do it?

Rather than having to set the timer.

Rite slight problem. Box keeps resetting itself every 5 minutes now.

    Unmounted and works fine.

Any ideas what could be causing it?

Hold down the green button for more than 3 secs and you should see the DVR controls on the infobar.

Press RADIO to start recording and press TV to stop recording.

Sounds like the mount is not set properly.

Have you followed the sticky on mounting and direct recording? You need to get the green tick when you click mount on the web interface.

If you get that error it means the mount is not setup properly and it's tried to record to the onboard memory.

            Got it sorted, thanks

I hadn't set my permissions correctly on the shared folder

After ticking "Allow network user to change my files", it recorded fine

However, playback is very jerky on VLC player on my PC - is this common? Is there anything that can be done about this?

The dm500 was never designed to be the best recorder, the dm600 has much better hardware for recording.

Recording over wireless will be worse than over ethernet cable. Packets just seem to be lost over air.

for the record, I have just managed to get NGrab working and it produces excellent result, no jerking and no pixel loss

cheers for your replies devilfish, much appreciated!

PS As an earlier poster said, are you Devilfish from the HB?

No, I'm not on that forum. It must be an imposter!, someone wanting to be me! I am the ONLY Devilfish!

                    Recording to a PC ..

                    southpaw83,
is there any chance you could post how you setup Ngrab here ?

I have a DM500, using image DW 2.0. I have a driect network connection to the DM500 ( crossover cable). I have sucessfully mounted a drive from my labtop and can record ( using the remote) to the mounted hard drive but the playback on the Dm500 is pixelated every couple of seconds. ( this is the same when I play back using VLC on the laptop).

Have you seen this pixelation on playback ? how did you fix the problem ?

                    would appreciate any ideas

                      record to PC

I have about the same setup:
DM500 with crossover-cable connected to my netbook (minilaptop) and mounted a drive on there.
I now have great results in recording.
At first the pictures would stop for a second or more every 4 or 5 seconds.
But after downloading and installing the original image it seems to be over.
(Before that I was using Nabilo sat Darkstar which was my favourite image @!!@#!).

However, my next problem in recording to PC over cross-over cable became this pop-up message:
"record failed due to an write error during recording.check for filesystem corruption.
I click it away, and in DCC.exe I press the stop play , and record - buttons, and it records again....until the message comes again. Sometimes already within a minute, sometimes after 30 minutes, sometimes it doesn't even come , but in those cases usually I'm not anymore able to change stations or do anything much with my remote, and my box seems to have crashed then.

                      Summary:
Only happens when I'm recording from my DM500 to my computer using the ethernet-connection with a cross-over cable having a mounted drive on my computer that is 'shared' in the most possible way, and , seems to be VERY IMPORTANT' that the computer is connected to Internet, because when not connected to the internet through my computer (Internet Connection Sharing) then my DM500 does not mount any CIFS drives.

Hope this does help a bit in this mystery
