DM500 Access DM500 via null modem cable

I bought a box from DVB Seller for my mate and I can't connect via crossover cable. (it ain't the cable or the compy settings as it works fine with mine) - looks like the input is dead. He is happy with a working box and doesn't want to send it back to China.
I flashed an old image using dreamup and it works fine but I would like load a newer image and to FTP to and from the box using flash xp
Can this be done using the null modem cable? Do I need different software?
    thanks

On dreambox all you can use a null modem cable for is flashing an image. If you want to do anything else than you need a straight through cable if you are connecting through a router or a cross over cable if you are connecting directly to the dreambox.

If you managed to flash an old image using dreamup than there is no reason why you cannot flash any other dreambox image using null modem cable and dreamup. I always dreamup and null modem cable for flashing my dm500 it is the safest option.

      Thanks Curious.
My problem is that the crossover cable will not connect to the box. I think the box is faulty because I can use the same setup to ftp to my own box.
Looks like you have answered my question in saying dreamup is only for a complete image. Can I save a COMPLETE image from my working box and flash it to the one in question

After you connect with dreamup, you will see a BACKUP button becomes available. This backs up the current image and saves it to your PC. Then flash that image to the other box.
