DM500 500C Fast delivery via DHL. Can't wait to start

    Hi Guys,

Just to say, very impressed so far with communication and delivery of 500c from dvbseller. Ordered my box 26th Aug 8.22PM and has arrived in London DHL office today 29th Aug at 12:36. Worth paying the extra few quid via DHL if you're in a rush.

Will keep all posted on my progress of getting box ready. Hoping all will go well.

A big thanks to all so far who have helped me getting the s/w and info ready, especially cgscott (cheers mate).

Just to re-cap, here are the steps I'm going to follow to get my box up and running. (please correct me if i'm going wrong anywhere).

    __________________________________________________ _____________

    Steps to flash 500C

I'm in London (Virgin Media Cable area). Have been advised to do following:

    1) As a pre-check of box before doing any flashing etc, switch on box and ensure cabling and signal ok, i.e. check to see if all FTA channels work.

    2) If ok, flash 500c with latest Digital Kaos v1.1 image i.e. Digital Kaos - Downloads - Digital Kaos v1.1 Image for Dm500 C/S/T using Dreamup method as per devilfish's instructions i.e. http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...ox-dreamup-33/

    3) In my case I will the communicate to Dreambox via IP, i.e. via patch cable from Router. Does Digital Kaos v1.1 image default to using DHCP or do I have to manually add IP address ?

    4) Ftp contents of downloaded keys etc , i.e. keys folder to /var/keys and contents of Scce folder to /var/scce
Links for these files, RapidShare: Easy Filehosting

    5) Do I need to FTP UK cable.xml to /var/etc that has been kindly sent to me or is this created automatically at some point ?

    6) Reboot box

    7) Do a Service scan i.e. Menu > Setup > Service Searching > Automatic Transponder Scan or do I do a scan under bruteforce ?

(I have a services file that I've downloaded. Do I use this or will the transponder scan/Bruteforce scan create one ?)

    8) Go to Sky Sports 1 Hold INFO for more than 3 secs to bring up EMU manager, press OK. Wait.......

If all ok would like to back up image in case anything goes t*ts up.

    9) Use Dream up to back up box. Is this correct, where does it go and what extension does the file have ?

Will this back up all the necesarry files mentioned above including and bouquets I create or do I need to back them up separately and use something like dreamboxedit to backup any bouquets I create ?

I am ok with linux commands etc so if there's another method, I don't mind using it.

Hopefully if this goes well newbies like me can use this info and all the great tutorials provided to start off.

Anyway, off to DHL depot to pick up the box......Well excited....Sick hey, but it's a new toy. You all know the score ...LOL

Sounds like you're well organised Booya!

Most of those steps are spot on.

    3) The default is DHCP set to ON.

    5) You don't need a cables.xml file, the image has the latest file for the UK.

    7) A bruteforce scan is not needed. Choose your area from the list and you will scan in all channels in under 2 minutes. Bruteforce will take over 15 minutes. If your area is not on the list, choose 6887 for ex-ntl area or 6952 for ex-tw and ex-cw areas. If you're not sure what your area used to be, use the bruteforce option.

    8) If you do a scan, it will create a services file so there's no need for you to copy over your file. If you want to use the file you have, don't do a service scan, ftp the file to /var/tuxbox/config/enigma and reload channels using YELLOW > USER FEATURES > RELOAD CHANNELS. But I advise that you do a scan on first boot, then you know you have the most up to date services.

    9) You can use Dreamup and a null modem cable to backup the image but it's as slow as a week in the jail. If you can ftp to the box, use this method.

This will backup everything, services, bouquets, keys, roms, etc... everything.

    Hope this helps.

Boys and their toys...women will never understand!

      Ok, Hi all. Update below:

Just got back and have unpacked box. Blimey, shocked to see how small the 500C is. Anyway this is where I am:

Started step 1) As a pre-check of box before doing any flashing etc, switch on box and ensure cabling and signal ok, i.e. check to see if all FTA channels work.

So far not sure If i'm doing the right thing but When I switch on box and set language etc I'm asked to do Transponder scan with an option to choose a) automatic b) manual. I just want to see if FTA channels work before procedding to step 2). Any Ideas what I need to use for transponder settings for East London ?

          Hi,

As mentioned, this step 1) I'm using the deafult out of the box settings to test the FTA channels work before moving on.

I only see ..> All (SR6900) or All (SR6875) under Automatic scan and nothing comes back on either. I did find this somewhere for my location but not sure what to select on manual to try these settings.

          Location
          Co
          Net Id
          Freq

can you ftp to your box, if so, i can get you a cables.xml file

to be honest mate, your box is working.

now go to step 2, and flash it with DK image.

I would just flash the DK v1.1 image and start from there.

                      Hi all,

All done & working fine. Just need to sort out the picons. I have found a picon directory under etc. Do I just copy there and reboot box ?

Just Bouquets to do after that and backup.

                      Thanks all so far

Yeah you copy the contents of the picon folder that you download from the DK v1 Image thread to the contents of the /var/etc/picon folder.

There's also a guide here for setting up bouquets...

Digital Kaos - Downloads - How To Setup Bouquets on Gemini and Enigma Images

Or you can use a PC program like DreamboxEdit.
