    Connecting a dreambox 800 HD wireless ?

simple question without me going into detail (cough cough splutter, )

Is it possible to hook up a dreambox 800HD wirelessly to the internet ? you know like using a bridge etc, i know an ITgate can do it, trying to find an HD box that can do it though.

those of you who know what i am on about will know what i;m on about, .

A couple of "almost" plug and play options are the Linksys gaming adapter :
    Linksys WGA54G Wireless-G Game Adapter: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo -
    [ame="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Linksys-WGA11B-Wireless-Gaming-Adapter/dp/B00005JJEO"]Linksys WGA11B Wireless Gaming Adapter: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo[/ame]

or, a wireless bridge, something like this from netgear :
Netgear WGE101 Wireless Ethernet Bridge Review - Networking Reviews - TrustedReviews

    or network plugs ,
    Maplin> network plugs

one option thats not an option is the "dream wifi mouse"

    good luck mate

Yes mate , a dm800 connected thru some kind of wireless bridge should be fine for c/s ,
as for the routers you`ve got , you would need to check if they are wds enabled

            anyone ??

i just want it solid confirmed that i can use a bridge to connect a dreambox 800Hd wirelessly to the */* server, its a bit of money to waste if it cant, thats why i need to be 100% sure on this, sorry for going on about it.

other option i do is a protek and dm500 plugged into a 4 port hub which then the ethernet cable plugs into a dlan ethernet high speed 85 by devolo type 13amp plug so it actually goes through house wiring.other end is plugged into router.quick note usually house wiring may split into 2 or 3 sections ,ie different circuits,so you may need 2 or 3.

Wds is a feature that allows 2 routers to work within same network ,

can you not just run an ethernet cable from your existing router to your dreambox ? that would be your best connection method ,

If not, you will get a more reliable and stronger signal (more than wireless that is ) with a pair of home plugs , (using your mains wiring to carry data) only about 25quid , 85mbps should be fine for C/S ing ,

and does that allow your dreambox to connect wireless;y to the internet ?

ive heard of them home plugs, no experience with them though, so couldnt comment.

Tell me more about homeplugs, do i just buy two, have one attached to the router ethernet port with ethernet cable and also plugged into the electric socket, and then downstairs plug the other homeplug into the electric socket next to the dreambox and run and ethernet cable from that homeplug to the dreambox, is that how it works ?? more like a wired connection than wirelss, sounds good and interesting if it is ??? please tell.

I cant or i would prefer not to have to run an ethernet cable to the dreambox 800HD, that would be too easy, LOL, i just want to attach something to the dreambox ethernet port that will then connect wirelessly to my internet connection in the house and therefore allow me to connect the dreambox 800HD to a server on the internet, i just need to know what to buy ? i have virgin BB, and as i said before, i have a couple of spare virgin netgear routers, i dont know if they would be any good though.

can i also ask this, it might sound like a stupid question, but even if i can connect the 800 like i say, does this mean that at the end where the signal is transmitted (the end where the pc and modem/router is), does the computer have to be left switched on 24/7 or can these things be setup so that they connect directly without the computer being on ??? hmmm, first ive thought of that.

Hi Tomo , Your description of how they work is spot on mate , cable from one port of your router to master plug , then in another part of the house your 2nd plug in mains has a ethernet cable straight to your dm800 ,
If you cant run a cable , i personally would go homeplugs , as i have read of issues with wireless and C/S,
As for leaving the pc switched on , No , Your router will be doing it all independant of the pc`s connectivity , btw , a router should remain powered on 24/7 anyhow , it uses very little power and manuals usually state not to power off ,
The benefit of plugs is when your having issues with your connectivity , nothing to configure , it either works , (green light) or it doesn`t , leaving you to find the real cause of the problem , (your config or there server)
As i said earlier 85mbps starter pack will be fine for your needs , and can be had for 25 - 30 quid
                          Good luck mate
