    DM500 dm500c Bypassing Parental Lock

    can files on a dm500c be backed up or accessed due to lossed / forgotten Parental Lock pin? is there any app software that can be used with a serial null calble to find out stuff like ip address or read ' decode logs. does the motherboard have a jumper like a pc board where settings can be reset?

    It's possible if you can ftp to the box or if you have the tuxbox commander plugin in your image.

    FTP to /var/tuxbox/config/enigma and find a file called 'config'.

    Right click it and select 'view'.

    Look for a line like...

    parentallock=00000000

    Open up your windows calculator and go to scientific mode.
    Click on the HEX button.
    Enter in the last 4 characters in the parental lock line in the config file.
    Click the DEC button.

    This is your 4 digit pin code. You can then use it to disable the parental lock or Setup lock on your image.

    If you can't ftp, your only option left is if you have the tuxbox commander plugin installed in your image, in the plugins menu (Blue or yellow button). You can navigate to the config file using this plugin and edit the file here.

              I think you may have misunderstand what was advised to you. did you do the following?

              FTP to /var/tuxbox/config/enigma and find a file called 'config'.

              Right click it and select 'view'.

              Look for a line like...

              parentallock=00000000

              -------------

              What does your line say in that file?

                Understood

                I did that but the enigma 2 for DB 800 does not have an enigma folder or a config file, it has enigme2 folder and a settings file. That file has no entry of a parentalcode or any mention of a pin number! It does have 5 entries but none states a pin number in Hex or otherwise. I really did not misunderstand but the DB800 is different from the DB500. Any other ideas will be highly appreciated and thank u for answering my query.

                  OK, I found the line: config.ParentalControl.servicepin.0=xxxx in "settings" file in etc/enigma2 folder using DCC (or any FTP client to connect to the box). This line has the PIN code in decimal as entered during setup. So, whoever uses enigma2 (Gemini2 project) operating software for dreambox 800 or 7025, this is where the code is saved. I hope this will help others out there.

                      if you telnet into box, run the following 2 commands could help for locating in different boxes.

                      cd /
                      grep -ri parental *

                      you may have to waita while, but it should spurt out the location for you.

                              I am understanding you correctly.

                              It seems you are having trouble getting the parental lock to work.

                              This thread is about finding the parental code that is set and working which you have lost or forgotten to gain access to locked channels. If that is what you need, i can help.
