Do I need to reflash?

Hi guys,

I'm wondering whether or not I need to reflash my box. I'm a bit of a newbie, so please bear with me.

I have a Dreambox 500c - don't know if it's real or cloned (I've heard there are two kinds) - and live in Lanarkshire. I lost all my free VM channels two days ago. In an effort to sort it out, I think - at one point - I stupidly restored the machine to factory settings, although there still appears to be a digitalworldz 'operating system' (sorry, I'm not sure of the correct terminology).

I've messed about and tried rescanning and stuff, but I'm only getting free-to-air channels like BBC etc. Should I 'reflash' the box, or is the fact that I'm getting the free channels enough to suggest that the software's ok and that it's something I can sort out without hooking the dreambox up to my computer?

I have no problem starting again from scratch if there's a decent tutorial online anywhere, but I'm a bit confused about whether or not it's required. The fact that there are different boxes, images, providers, cams, etc. is making the process even more complicated, as I'm struggling even to diagnose the problem, let alone correct it.

Anyway, if anyone can advise me on this, please do. I very much appreciate the help.

i find dk image 1.1 the best i would start it all again go to dream up do a flash erase then flash dk image. easy way to do it is to go on you tube dream box set up is a brilliant step by step guide

i am now having a similar problem. i did a factory reset when i really shouldnt have done. now i have only some free channels.
i have ftp'd the files into correct place, reboot, went to sly sports and started the evocam but still getting nothing.
any ideas?

Also have you waited from more than 10 seconds for channel to appear?

What folders did you stick the files in?

yes waited the time.
in lanarkshire area using dm500c with dk 1.1
never had probs like this before

i put files in var/keys and var/scce

i have done a few boxes before and everything went smoothly as soon as i had all the right files

everything seems fine apart from the channel stays black. all info is there

Strange? You must have went wrong somewhere?

Remove the cam and download again from addons. See if that helps.

If not it must be the files.

I use same box same image and im watching the Aberdeen game now.

i am using the files that i originally downloaded last year. just un rar'd them again and used them. i have 9 files in the keys folder.
and 3 files in scce. its the number"7" files in the scce
is this what you have?
i would reflash but no longer have the laptop with the rs232 port on it.

Have you replaced the nagrarom file in the scee folder with the updated file from november 2008

yes i did mate. its the nagrarom7 files.3of
just reflashed box there and still no good channels. all channels seem to have the small key highlighted in the bottom left corner of the info bar. i would assume this means that the channel is locked. i have no idea how i had the channels last night but not after a factory reset and re doing all the magic files. any other advice would be appreciated

up and running now folks. was missing a nagra file. all that grief for that eh?
