Getting virgin then cancelling straight away

Hi guys,

I'm interested in getting a dreambox, and was wondering if any can think of any issues I might have with ordering virgin TV (To get a cable connection in my house) then cancellation in the first 30 days (to break the contract) so that I can use a dreambox.

Can anyone see any problems with doing that, and has anyone done this themselves?

why don't you just get their Broadband,
worth paying for (well apart from the capping bit!!)

ld do that m8 . just get the internet basic installed and splitters and your away and u dont have to worry about it being turned off

nah I already have sky with their broadband and don't want to mess about with that. I just want the dreambox for the bedroom, so the plan is to get the bog standard TV package then cancel. Surely once I order the TV package they just come round and install the coax jack on the wall and give me a V box, then when I cancel, they collect the V box and I can still use the dreambox from the coax jack??

Firts of of people all you need is the basic broadband connection for virgin media and a dreambox dm500-c and the new digital Kaos image ver 1.1 to flash it to get english transponders, otherwise you won't get a signal lock when you tune it in. If you want to use a dreambox with sky use the next model up, look around the forums cos i'm not sure for sky but I can tell you that its more difficult to set up from what I have read but it's possible. also you will need keys to decrypt the chanels. look around the forums and ask an administrator privately.....

thats what he means m8, the same cable is used for the tv package as well as the broadband. always best to pay for the minimum imo and at least give something back to the cable company. there is always the chance they will disconnect you from the green box if you have no package whatsoever

ok my mate has an old NTL "socket" in his front room which has been there for years.....he bought a dreambox and plugged this into the NTL socket and he now gets all the channels.

I want the updated equivalent in my room....basically an engineer to come round and put a virgin "Socket" on my wall, with a coax connector, that I can plug my dreambox into.

So what has this got to do with virgin broadband? Surely they are two completely different things??

Like I've already said, i just want the TV, not the broadband, as I already have broadband which i'm perfectly happy with.

So the idea is to order a "solus" package from virgin (Virgin TV - nothing else) and they'll come in and put a "socket" in my room....that's all I need surely??

If this is the case, then how come my mate's NTL socket works fine, even though nothing has been connected to it for at least three years before he plugged his dreambox into it??

Or is NTL's "socket" completely different to a virgin media "socket"??

And if they are different....is there anyway of getting an old NTL socket connected instead?....say perhaps buying a second-hand one?

if virgin install a modem in your bedroom and u disconnect it and screw the cable into your dreambox it will work simple as that .. 9 quid a month for every channel and if u get a splitter use the modem too , get a bent modem and have 20mb

Yes. But on my street all the houses have a feed so theres no chance ill get disconnected. Look on your pavement do you see a 8 inch thick line going the length of your street with often turn ins to every two houses? If so you probably have a unconnected feed into your house ready for a subscriber.
