DM500 Think i've messed up installation

I downloaded the new image, and put it in the temp folder to update too, put it on via flashxp, and when I went in to update the image, it seemed to be going fine, but it has started flashing up the DK logo and then the screen goes blank, and this just repeats.

I have tried to reconnect via flash xp, but I guess the IP has changed.....

Can I do anything or have I screwed it up?

    Any help greatly appreciated

Will I have to null modem the box to the laptop?

I'm baffled as to what has happened....

    raging at myself

    hi m8,
looks like the image hasn't flashed properly. you will now to use dreamup with only null modem cable. best thing to do is do a flash a base image and then flash the dk image using dream up. if same thing happens again repeat the process but when you flash dk image and it asks you to flash erase clivk nein

Thanks for this matey, I have ordered a Null Modem Cable online and I hope to have it in a day or two. I'll be able to dream up the box then and fix it hopefully.

Question though..... this null modem cable, is it the RS232 cable? Its just I can see where it would fit into the box, but confused how it connects to the laptop? are they not 9 pins?

It is a serial, RS232 cable. You should have a 9 pin serial connector on the back of your box.
You also need a PC/laptop with a serial connection. Most of the newer laptops don't have them so you could use a usb-serial converter. That can make it more complicated as you have to configure it to get it to work.

Perhaps borrow a laptop from a mate?

Hi mate, I think I have both a null modem cable and a usb adaptor which I bought months ago, but I couldn't get them to connect...... thats why i was using flash xp. I'll hunt them out, I might have been having a blonde moment!

I have the null modem cable, it connect into the back of the box, I have the usb adaptor as the laptop only have the vga and serial port for the printer as connections at the back.

So I am connecting the null cable to the adaptor, the other end of the null into the box, and the usb into the port on the pc. But when I connect it to Dreamup, it states connected, and to turn on the power, once I do, nothing happens.

          I'm baffled......

This is the cable I have:

              you connecting to PC ?
your PC should have a com port on the back, so no need for a USB adapter.
The null modem cable you shown should do, just connect both ends to PC and Dreambox.
Ive never used a usb adapter, just took null modem cable to a PC thats got a com port on the back ( 9 pin Plug , male pins).

sorry didnt read your posts properly, i see you got lappy with no com port.
Then take it to a mates who got a PC that has a com port.

you will need to connect box to laptop with crossover cable and ftp the files over using something like flash xp
go to keys folder in box and transfer the files from the downloaded keys folder to here and overwrite existing.
do the same with the scce folder
