dream 500c remote control failure

I have only had the dream for about 8 weeks and the remote has failed,is this a common fault?i have tried new batteries and it has not been dropped,also if a new remote is required were is best to purchase from? the best I have seen is 20 quid(I wonder if I can claim on the warranty)
for extra info the box lights work if you press the on off button green and red are fine
