DM500 Novice - How do i flash an image??

I am complete novice to this. Basically, i have bought a DB500 and need to flash a new UK image on it which i need to copy from my mates box which works perfectly well? How do i do that ?
Can someone tell me exactly how i would copy my mate image? Step by Step.

Secondly how would i copy this image onto my box? Step by Step please.

Thanks to anyone who help me .....solve this problem as i have paid for DBbox500 with a non-UK image.

I can dowload from your link but it does seem to open the files? What is VAR?

the VAR is the folder where the keys and service of all the channels is placed but first thing is you need to connect your dreambox to your PC using an ftp software

FTP

OKay thanks. I have connected my DB500 via ethernet to my router and wifi connected to my laptop. I am using flashFXP to upload the files. I have followed your guides and changed the settings on DB500 to server:192.168.1.101. When i try to connect i input the same server details together with username:root, Password:dreambox, and Port21.
It tries to connect to the Db500 but then fails with error message. 'Connection timed out'. Can you advise why? How can establish the connection?

Connected to Laptop

okay thanks i have managed to connect my db500 to laptop via router using FlashFTP. I can see a list of files from my DB500 on the right hand side. How do i now copy all the settings from my friends DB500 box (which has the Enigma image) onto my box (which has an image that is not UK specific). Do i copy all files from Enigma? On my box do i just deleted the whole image by pressing delete and then copying over the enigma image??? Please someone advise before i mess up both the boxes.

Copy the cable.xml file from var/etc from his box to yours. You will also need the files from his var/keys var/scce.

What image are you using and what is his image?

my image is Gemini Project but does not pickup any UK channels as the SYM is not UK. My freinds image is Enigma which works a treat on his DB500C.

How to flash?

Sorry to be a total dork, but how do i Flash the actual image? I beleive i download your DK version then save it somewhere on my laptop. I then connect via FTP to the box., but what next what do i copy over??

If you have a null modem cable, follow this guide.

If you don't have a null modem cable, you will need to ftp the .img file (extract the .rar file with WinAce or WinRar) to the /tmp folder on the box. Connect to the box with telnet and use the flash command to flash the box.

I copied the VAR file from my friends Enigma box. I then connected my DB500 with (Gemini project) and tried to replace the VAR file with my friends copy. I pressed the transfer file button on FTP and soemthing happened. However, when i connected my box there were no changes at all!! How do i delete Gemini Project altogther and replace with Enigma?
