    DM500 Cannot connect Laptop to DB500

    I have connected my DB500 via ethernet to my router and wifi connected to my laptop. I am using flashFXP to upload. I have followed your guides and changed the settings on DB500 to server:192.168.1.101. When i try to connect i input the same server details together with username:root, Password:dreambox, and Port21.
    It tries to connect to the Db500 but then fails with error message. 'Connection timed out'. Can you advise why? How can i establish the connection?
    thanks again.

      Thats just it. I am trying to change the current Gemini Project image to one that is UK specific i.e. Enigma or Kaos.
      I have been advised that my first step is to establish a connection between my laptop and Dreambox. I am stuck at this first stage!!!!

        Hi
        Why don't you use a Nul Modem Cable and Dreamup, its so easy to flash your requred image this way. You can look into your connection setting adjustments when you have the correct image installed.

          are u using a crossover cable ???

          you would be better just connecting your laptop straight to the dm500 via crossover cable forget about the router just now until you have successfully made the changes to the box

            what is the IP of your router ?

            try changing the "1" to " 0"

            192.168.0.101 instead of 192.168.1.101

            its deffo an IP prob between lappy and dm500, thats why i think its the router

              If you tell people what model of router you have you might find people might be able to help you better.

                Might seem obvious but have you got DHCP ticked in communication setup and enable network is ticked also, check that if not put on reboot box go back into comms and use the I.P displayed.

                  Your router status/config address page URL http://192.168.x.x where (x) [depends on model], will have a list of clients connected, access this a see what comes up against the MAC address for your Dreambox.

                  <--nivlem added 6 Minutes and 48 Seconds later...-->

                  Bash your LAN with this command in a cmd window...

                  FOR /L %i IN (1,1,254) DO ping -a -n 1 192.168.1.%i | FIND /i "Reply">>c:\ipaddresses.txt

                  *note you might have to modify (3rd number) in the ip address to fit you regime
                  e.g 192.168.0.%1
                  or
                  192.168.1.%1
                  and so on...

                  <--nivlem added 0 Minutes and 57 Seconds later...-->

                  give it 15 mins to scan the LAN and then open this file c:\ipaddresses.txt
