still cannot transfer files from pc to dreambox

hi i have followed noobs guide
only problem is i cannot transfer keys and roms to dreambox

i have been told that box may not be connected and how can i tell because the box appears to be loading flash image and flash fxp loads upo box files but transfer fails.

i have tried ttp commander which says no host

I had problems with FlashFXP too m8. I thought everything was loading but then it would flash a message saying failed. Also used another, that failed too.

I read about another programme and used that and it went as well as it should have. Ipswitch Ws_FTP Pro. If you use torrents go to torrentz.com and do a search. There a retail version of it so it's a straightforward install.

I have used this program and it works no probs.

A way you can check if it's connected is to ping the ip address.

Open a command prompt: Start > Run > cmd <enter>

Type:

ping 192.168.1.101

(replace ip address with ip address of your box)

If you get a reply (see pic) then it's connected ok. If it returns a timeout then it's not connected.

ginger you dont actually need to download any ftp software.

if you go to windows explorer and in your web browser and type in

ftp://your.dreamboxip.address (i.e. ftp://192.168.1.100)

then type username:root - password: dreambox

If your box is talking to the pc the dreambox contents will be displayed in the right hand pane and pc contents in the right hand pane. you can copy the keys/roms over then reboot the box.

Depends what format its in - if its a rar file winrar will do the trick.

what do you mean the files dont transfer - whats the problem/message?

If you are using an ftp program you may have to right click on the files you are trying to copy and choose an option that says transfer. For example go to the var/keys folder on your dreambox and open it up. Now go to where you have the keys on your pc. Open up and select "all files" then right click and choose transfer. Do the same for the var/scce and copy the files in scce folder. Reboot the box and hopefully all will be well.

Given that you can connect to the box try accessing the box via windows explorer (see thread above). Shortcut for explorer is "windows" key (bottom left of keyboard in between ctrl and alt keys) + E key. Where it says My Computer (top right of browser bar) type in ftp:// ip.address. of box

no still doing the same do you think there is something wrong with the files of the key and roms

also when i typed in ip address the dreambox files came up but no pc files

Are you typing the ip.address in windows explorer - it sounds like you are doing this in your internet web browser.

The easiest way would be to open up the keys folder on your pc. Then click edit then select all. All files will now be highlighted - right click on the 1st file and choose copy, Now open up the var/keys folder on your dreambox, right click and choose paste. Follow the same procedure to copy over the scce files to the var/scce folder. After its done using remote press info button for a few seconds then choose reboot. That should be you.
