Do i need a Rooter? Need your help guys

Do i need a rooter to download information from PC to Dreambox 500c or can i just use my modem that is active and if i can how do i connect it as i got a internet acble going from my modem to my pc for internet connection so how would i connect my dreambox 500c to my modem?

I think you'd need a router to connect your 500c to the internet. If you just want to connect to the PC then you need a crossover cable.

If i connect the crossover cable behind my Pc that means i will have to take out the internet cable and put the crossover cable in? that means i wont get the internet.

yeh thats what im doing now pain in the ass but it works

have your files ready ftp them to box then put your internet back in

You dont need it rigged to the pc all the time,just when flashing etc be it by null modem serial connection or ethernet crossover.

Easiest way is just to get a router then no messing about. Its the way most will be set up i guess.

What Files would i need for ftp when i get my dreambox and how do i open them as i only can view the text threw word? Also if i do take the wire out from the internet dont i need the internet to transfer the files

Get a router, it will save the hassle. Also, you don't need internet to transfer the files over, it has nothing to do with the internet. A router and a ethernet cable will do the trick. Use something simple like filezilla as your FTP client. Wordpad or notepad is fine to edit files.
