DM500 cable splitter problem

I got a problem with my cable spliter I have replaced the original one from my provider that had only one output for internet into to another one that I bought on ebay with 4 outputs there is a eagle logo and it is from a company name BZT, the specifications seems to me the same. 5-1000 Mhz. The problem is that after I replace the splitter the internet keep swiching off all the time. I just put back my original one and works fine again.
This is the second spliter that i bought on ebay and it looks like is not a quality splitter I just paid ?2 for it. The original one is more robust tratec tris-1002AEN. Does anyone know what spltter would be recomended for a cable/internet that I should use and where I can to buy?

the more you split a signal the weaker it becomes to run multiple units sometimes requires a signal booster to stop break up

Dont know why But I am suspecting tha could be the quality of the splitter. Someone also told me about an a ttenuator, now you mention a signal booster. how to find out....? it is funny that the TV never stop to work only the internet....

im not 100% on this but i think an attentunator is to help with a signal that is too strong

signal strenght can be a number of factors from your f connectors to your spitters to your quality and length of your coax cable i was having problems with picture break up on a couple of transponders on my dreambox but i phoned virgin and said it was happening on my virgin box

they come round and dug my lawn up cos the said the cable to the house was ~~~~ed it sorted the problem though

only thing to advise is use trial and error if you buy a booster for instance and it doesnt solve it just take it back it costs you nothing then to try

just ask any cable fitter for one and hell give u it for a pint

thanks Ian. I think that is the same manufaturer from the 4 way splitter that i got here.
If you conect to 2 boxes and internet i would imagine that you would need a 3way splitter and not 2 way or?
what type of booster would be used . I would imagine that the booster is for tv signal or? anyone could send me a link of the booster at ebay and tell me where to connect, Would be before the spliter input? Mind that my problem is only on the internet!

I just use 2 of these,

1 straight from the wall socket to split into 2:... 1 = (tv) + 1= (Broadband).

Then the other splitter I put @ the end of the (tv) coax that came from the first splitter which divides the lead into 2 again: 1 = (legal V+ box) + the other = (Dreambox).

This would not affect your Broadband signal, if you are getting a dropped connection then it is something else.

Try a few fault diagnostics by:

1. check the cable that goes to your broadband is not faulty by swopping the cables over.

2. try removing all the cables + splitters & connect the broadband direct to the wall socket, & try different cables again to make sure its not that.

If you keep getting dropped connections with only the broadband connected to the wall socket & after trying different leads, then I would say that it is either a bad connection outside or pc/modem problem & not the splitter as you have bypassed it & also elliminated a bad lead by swopping them,

so you can hide your illegal box & I would call them out to fix it.

I called my provider few weeks ago a guy came over tested and found nothing wrong here. He replaced anyways my cable modem for a more modern one and changed the cable plugs. but I am still having the same problem. I just can use their one way splitter as soon I use any after market splitter for TV/internet I get problems with internet connection.

I must admit it does seem strange, but unless you do a bit of extra trial & error you will never know.

Have you tried a diferent cable to the modem yet?
Coz the cable you are using might have a dodgy plug or something, which is enough to give you a bad connection.

I still cant get my head around this original 1 way splitter you mention about, a splitter has to be @ least 2 way or it is not a splitter @ all, it is just a filter.

If the original so called splitter has 2 outputs on it & as you say the internet works ok with it, (so leave that part alone) & the other output that goes to the tv & that works ok, then all you have to do is put the other splitter that you said looks like mine but a 4 way, on the end of the cable just before it connects to the tv box.

I understand that this sounds strange and it is indeed strange...
The original "Splitter" has only one way and you are right it may be just a filter. That is why I need at least a 2 way splitter in order to have internet and TV working at the same time...As I sad previously the modem’s cable and modem has been checked recently by a VM technician and by myself, there is no problem with it.
I honestly cannot get it at all. It is very odd...That is why I have been asking since the beginning for the type of splitter that you recommend. In your case you have an official splitter from your provider tv/internet and another one that you have installed yourself latter one. In my case I have replaced the one from VM a one way “filter” (internet only) into a 4 way splitter. I am wondering if the splitter would also to the job of the filter...both works under 5-1000mhz. Is that the only relevant specification regarding splitter and filters that I need to be aware about when buying a new splitter?
I can not even complain with my provider becouse if I use their original filter the internet works fine....so there is nothing wrong with the service that they are providing to me....
The only thing that I did not try is to leave the original filter and connect the spliter after. I would like to avoid to create more mess and unnecessary cables in the house and for me it makes no sense to have both connected at the same time, in my understand as much more splitter and filters that I have the bigger the signal lost will be,or ?.....
I am starting to consider to buy a splitter that is 5-2400 mhz. There are several types of spliters at ebay that supposed to work. Still dont understand why some types are 5-1000mhz and some 5-2400mhz. which one should we use?
