Dreambox 500c Tuner

Hi guys,

I have just been given a dreambox 500c, it seems to be working fine but the connection for input on the tuner has been broken off. I have opened the box and I can see no way of fixing it without replacing the whole tuner.

I have searched the net and eBay and can?t find anyone selling them for the 500c, so does anyone know where I could get one, and how much they would be. I have seen the tuners for newer dreamboxes for around ?36, is that about right.

Would I be right in saying that the turner its self, has a large pin connection, and 4 soldered joints keeping it attached to the main board?

I.E. disordering the 4 joints would allow the removal of the tuner?

hi m8,
if its not the push fit type you need to desolder the 4 mounts, plus 25-30 at the side of the mounts. sure maplin do a coax socket. try soldering one of them on before you replace the tuner

Yeh tahnks for the reply, defo not push fit, i thought about replacing the coax socket, but once i opened the box up, i noticed that i would need access to inside the tuner to fix it, as there is just a small hole, and nothing for about 1/2 cm, so looks like it wil have to be a whole new unit.

Any ideas on ware i would get one?

I,VE HEARD OF A FEW GUYS GETTING BOX,S WITH PROBS FROM CHINA AND DONT WANT TO SPEND MORE CASH SENDING THEM BACK. MAYBE ONE OF THEESE GUYS WILL SEL YOU THEIR BOX AT A KNOCKDOWN PRICE AND YOU CAN TAKE OUT THE TUNER AND SOLDER IT IN TO YOUR OWN.
