    dm500c ethernet problem

    hi
flashed image with dream up after setting ip adress on dm500c
lost ethernet connection during flashing now have no ethernet connection
tried 2 cables on different pcs no go still no connection
internet sign on toolbar says cable not pluged in
used cables on other boxes ok
is the ethernet port an easy fix (ie could it have blown a fuse)
    thanks for any help

You don't need an ethernet cable when flashing with dreamup, you can use a null modem cable on it's own.

Does your box boot up fully? If so, check the ip address hasn't changed. Some images have DHCP enabled by default so your router will have assigned it another ip address.

On your second box, leaving aside trying to back it up. Does the box connect to your home network and internet? Just need to establish if the problem is with your ethernet port, image or router?

          hi
yes at the moment 2nd box has connection (don't use router)
loses connection when tring to back up image with dream up
have seen files on box wih ftp program also had telnet connection
because ethernet connection stops when using dream have not flashed
box incase I lose ethernet connection all together like on 1st box
(flahing works ok with dream up just carn't ftp so not able to add or save files)

just to say before flash on 1st box had connection changed ip address

How are you connecting to your box to ftp files? With a crossover or a null modem cable?

I have had problems in the past connecting pc with crossover cables and other devices. It could be your pc and crossover cable configuration. It seems strange that both of your boxes have the same problem. If you have any friends with a router maybe you should try it there before considering returning the box.

                  hi
                  from my 1st post
is the ethernet port an easy fix (ie could it have blown a fuse)

BOX 1 the port stopped working through and has not worked since flashing with dream up (tried different ip address etc) connections all working fine on dbox and other dreambox

BOX 2 has erthernet connection stopped when tring to back up image on box
as log in post one (so have not flashed in case it goes same as box 1)

so realy asking is ethernet port easy fix as don't want to open box if needs sending back
                  thanks again

The ethernet port connections are soldered onto the motherboard so there is not much you can do about it.

                        hi
just noticed in a dream up tut
Make sure ?use network? is unchecked

I had it checked could this have caused problem as
ethernet port was working before flash
also will try backing up image on 2nd box again
                        with networkun checked

Worse case you could probably solder in a new port
Checkout the RED stickies massive amount of info and effort been put into them.

As your second box is partially working fine I would forget about dreamup and making a backup or flashing an image but rather concentrate on trying to figure out why you cannot ftp files etc.

                              hi
the story so far on 2nd box used dream up with network is unchecked
                              backed up image to pc
then was able to ftp files to image
flashed working image and ethernet working ok

so if anybody has just got a new dm500c from dvbseller
make sure ?use network? is unchecked or you may not
be able to make a back up or even like me end up with no
                              ethernet connection (like box 1)

                              hope this may help

again thanks for all the help
