    DM500 var_init and var_flash

    Hi All,

Been messing around loading different images, DK1.1 & PLi-Jade....etc and have noticed the above folders in the root along side the var folder.

I suspect that they are there for factory reset, or were created when I made a backup from the setup menu that I could never find!?!?!?!

Could someone please explain what these are for and are they safe to delete...etc.

When the image is created, all the /var files are put in /var_init. When your box does the initial 'flash erase after flash' it copies everything from /var_init to /var. The same with the factory reset, it deletes everything in /var and copies everything in /var_init to /var.

But I know what you're thinking...'I could put keys and roms etc in /var_init and then when I do a factory reset it will be set up!'. Unfortunately /var_init is read-only and you cannot edit it unless you have a linux PC.

    I don't know what /var_flash is.

      Thanks DF!,

Is what you have described, what happens when you flash with Dreamup? Or does the same thing apply when you flash using The Telnet commands?

The telnet commands don't flash erase after the flash because if you flash a backup using telnet, all your settings are still there.

You get the option when using dreamup, after it uploads the image to the box, it asks if you want to flash erase after flash, yes or no.
