DM500 Import Duty on Dreambox from China

    Hi Guys
I'm interested in purchasing a Dreambox from one of the websellers located in China.
I was just wondering has anyone purchased such boxes, if so, are they any good and more importantly do you have to pay an import tax when getting them delivered.

    many thanks in advance

there are a few sellers, the delivery charge is a bit steep, and if you have a faulty box then it would cost you a fortune to send it bach, and watch out as some sellers state they wont replace or refund.

i would say try and get a uk seller first. unless your desperate.

Obviously there's always the risk of customs targeting your package but I believe they mark it as a gift and say it's worth 16 euro or something like that so that you don't need to pay tax.

I have brought through a couple of boxes from china and never has a problem with import duty they mark it as a sample and put a low value on it to avoid tax. It can be a long process returning faulty boxes so I would stick to a local supplier if you are buying a one off

DVB Seller will state that the box is a sample and have little value on their invoice so youll get away with it.
If you choose dhl theres a greater risk of paying costums charges but it'll only be less than 10 euro.
go with the ems shipping and youll be ok.

Had no import duty from dvbseller.com, as others have said they mark the packages with low values.

There is always the chance they can get stopped, but even if they do the charges won't be massive as the item value is pretty low.

Do you the cheaper option, as EMS goes through normal postage channels and is far less likely to be charged than using the main couriers who often send you a bill later (just when you thought you'd escaped!)

I bought 3 receivers off DVBSeller last week .
I received a letter off the Irish Revenue Commissioners today.
They are holding the 3 Dreamboxes that I ordered until I 'Forward Purchase Invoice or a Pay Pal receipt to them to ascertain if the goods are liable to duties'
'If you do not have the purchase invoice,a paypal receipt or a print out from the internet detailing how much the goods cost is acceptable.'
On receipt of this information they will apply the appropriate import charges to the parcel.
They were sent via EMS,never had any issues with them before .
Of course we had the budget here yesterday so I have no doubt the Govt are desperate to get as much income as possible.
I think that Customs have rumbled DVBSeller by now so I wont be ordering off them again.

                    Hi All,

I'm currently tracking my DM500 through Parcel Force.
At one stage in the tracking it says "AWAITING CUSTOMS CHARGING"

Since then it has been sent to my local depot and should be delivered tomorrow.

Does this mean I'm going to be charged??

                    Thanks if anyone knows!

No. It always says that as it has to be assessed.

Pretty sure if it says it is on the way to the depot then you are fine. The next stage is awaiting payment if there is a charge...

Parcel companies can charge you at the door when they drop off, Ive been hit with that one once when i got some paintball stuff from USA.

Parcelforce (or the postman for smaller packets), who deliver anything sent EMS, used to charge at the door.

This is no longer the case (quite a recent change), it is held at the depot now and you get sent a card demanding payment and they only deliver once payment is made.

Sometimes things get through, sometimes they don't. Customs and excise have stepped up recently and much less gets through these days. Somehow DVBSeller marking prices low continues to fool them.

UPS, DHL and other couriers usually deliver with seemingly no charge, then a few weeks later a letter will turn up demanding payment. Rarely do things get through the couriers without a charge.
