A chameleon remote direct from Maplins works-----I operate my plasma TV, satellite [7020 and 500] plus video/dvd recorder and cable [500] all from single remote----if you can't get a remote m8, contact me as I have a spare.
    Regards.

I have,so far, tried three different "multi remotes" with no luck at all.I know the box is working ok as i borrowed my mates 500c remote just to check and alll was well.I assumed that the 500 was the type of box that was difficult to controll using anything other than the origional remote controller, which i thought was the reason none of the three i tried worked on it.Still trying the crossover cable suggestion but it's taking an age to fine the ip addy of my box . Ah well, back to a hot keyboard.
And thanks for the offer of the spare remote The Reaper, appreciate it and i may just be in touch.P,S is it the dm500c remote or a multi one ?
Thanks again guys. The level of help from this site never ceases to amaze me.

it will cost ya about ?7 for a 500c remote.

will cost ya more than that just to return your faulty one.

Am i missing something here guys ?
Can i simply plug a crossover cable from my laptop/desktop into my dreambox, enter the ip of the box into a web browser and presto, controll it using my lappy/desktop or do i need some software running to be able to do this.Only reason i'm asking is that i've been trying for over an hour so far and not been able to "guess" the ip of my box. There must be more to it surely ?

Thanx for the compliments Ian----when I came to this forum, I was helped every step of the way by Devilfish and other members so it's great to be able to return some of that kindness---your remote is in the post, it was tested and working 100%. enjoy.

After four hours of trying to hit the right ip address for my 500c i gave up.Today, however,i borrowed my nieces 500c remote and got the ip off my box.It was nothing like i was told it would be,no digs at anyone here,in fact the ip read as - 10.0.0.97 - is that correct ?
After hooking up the cable again i entered this into the address bar of both ie7 and firefox, thinking i would soon be back in control of my 500c.But alas no ! Nothing, just a blank page in my browser, tried four different crossover cables all with the same result. This is really doing my head in now,i do have a remote coming to me,courtesy of The Reaper, but would just like to get this setup working so i know how to do it in case anyone of my friends ever end up in the situation of their remote dying. Please guys, have i missed something out,any suggestion will be gratefully received.
                      Thanks again.

in your web browser you need to find your router. try these 2 see if you get into your router.
                        192.168.0.1
                        192.168.1.1

then let me know if you get a router setting screen

do you need to connect to the router or do you just want to connect your box up to pc for a quick fix?

can you go into the settings on your box and look for network with the remote control

and what is the IP address of your router ?

and you do have the crossover cable between box and router and its pushed in correctly . ?

All i'm trying to do is to control the box using my laptop for a few days as my remote is totally kaput.I have connected using a crossover cable to my laptop but i can't connect to the box via a web page as i was told you could.

I do not have the cable connected to my router as it is on a spare bedroom and the tv is in the lounge.I have it connected direct from my laptop to the box.
