Are you planning to use it as an access point or a router?

If a router (with modem connected) then yes it will be fine.

I know it has an access point included but I'm not sure if it would connect to another router. You might need to change the firmware to convert it to an ethernet bridge.

Maybe someone else will know for sure.

      Hi

I'm basically trying to buy 1 bit of kit to do 2 jobs. I am loooking for connectivity of my 500c & xbox 360. I have read that the above product is okay for xbox, hence my question. However I have since PM'd 'caveman_nige' as he has posted here that he has/is using a belkin wireless bridge for his Dreambox & xbox. However I don't know the model or if they are both hooked at at the same time (i would have thought so though).

I can't find the thread now so can't paste it. Too late now.

If you are going to connect this router to your modem, then connect the dreambox and xbox to it, that will work fine.

If you already have a router, and you want this router to connect to your existing router, I don't think it will be straight forward.

You need to get a wireless access point for the Dreambox and the Xbox .
It needs to support AP Client Mode,so you can connect to a network device's Ethernet port and enable Station mode, easily turning this wired network device to a wireless one without changing any configuration.
The LINKSYS-WRT54GL can be configured to run in client mode but you will have to change the firmware.

If you get a the router in the first post, you can put DD-WRT firmware on it and configure it be whatever you want.

I am correct to say that becuase this only has 1 lan port I would require 2 of them if I want to network the 500c & xbox 360 at the same time

                      That is correct.

You can get a netgear wireless 4-port switch which would probably suit you better.

Worth checking what version of router it is first. I have a WRT54G v7 and you can't put any third party firmware on it. Mine apparently has different hardware to the older versions and nothing can be done with it.
