    DM500 Atennuator or Booster?

Please tell me, can one tell from the picture which is required or is it trial and error?

    Much obliged

PS I get a black picure with faint white pulsating squiggly lines in the upper section and no sound on the odd channel but thankfully, no problem on most. Rescanned with same result, so thinking it's a signal issue.

    Hi
Can you give us some channel names of these black picture channels??, we can then see what we get on our sets, they seem like channels that are not transmitting till certain times (maybe evening??) Oh and what box have you??
Weak or low signal strength issues mostly give blocky pixelated screens on nearly all channels. (Digital Boxes, that is)

S*tanta sports news works fine downstairs but upstairs the picture is as described earlier, black picure with faint white pulsating squiggly lines in the upper section and no sound.

      A signal booster needed perhaps?

My housemate put another 2 way splitter before the 2 way splitter for upstairs...I say we should remove both of the 2 way splitters and put in one 3 way splitter.

      Would this improve the signal?

Dont immediately discount an attenuator, too strong a signal causes the exact issues as too low a signal.
Checkout the RED stickies massive amount of info and effort been put into them.

            Silly Question Maybe,
But have you swapped the upstairs box with the one downstairs to see if the same thing happens ?
Also what network area are you in as ex NTL is different from Telewest.
NTL signals have to be balanced between the top and the bottom end.
Whereby Telewest just requires attenuation to reduce signals.
I think you really need a signal test to be sure.
Also if the signal was already weak removing 2 splitters would improve the signal a little, but again i would check the cable and F's.

the more splitters you have m8 the weaker your signal will be the lines could be interference from a dodgy f connector(a stray wire)
