help with usb to com

hi i hope some one can help me ,i had to reistall xp on my pc but when i try to reinstall dream up it wont install and i get the error message ,error cant find any com ports , ive been using the usb to com port adapter and had no problems using it with dream up before and i dont think it came with any driver disks (atleast i dont remember installing any drivers for it before.

These adaptors can be a pain in the a*s* under normal conditions but as you don't have an install disc it will be impossible. You could look in device manager to see if any ports are listed, but those will likely be the ones that XP installed by default. If its only a one off flash your doing goto a m8's PC with a 9pin port. Alternatives, google for drivers or buy a PCI Plugin type with 9 pin out com port, these are far better and not much dearer, popular auction site.

Download file and run, take cable out first. When the file has finished running insert cable and hardware wizard will come up let it search automatically for the best driver.

im installing but nothing is happening and then i plug usb to com adapter in and i still get the error when installing dream up

still not working ,im installing huge pine but nothing happens ,this is very frustrating as i now it was working fine before i reinstalled xp

If you got nothing when you plugged in the USB adapter then that suggests there is something wrong with the USB port you should have got the hardware wizard, if you dd and it's not finding the device then uninstal the hugepine adapter and try this one USB to Serial Adapter driver downloads and documentation

No problem for future refrence if you have a USB to serial adapter that looks like the one below then chances are this one will work.

Not sure if its my end but I get corrupted file after trying to unzip the driver, maybe this is the problem with jake.

change setting


i had to change the com port setting in device manager
so that i was using com port 2 for the usb 2 serial
Has it sometimes sets it to 5 and above
making it so that the program can't access it
i hope this is of some use
