I am fellow MacAddict and I have never owned a PC, I concur with the rest of the sentiments on this thread.
For what its worth ...I have found the info on the ' Guide: Flash and Backup an Image via Telnet' Sticky very useful.
I have set up my Dreambox by using a Mac ftp client, such as Cyberduck, Captain FTP, Transmit to name but a few.
And then Telneting to the box using the Terminal window within the utilities folder or using the small telnet application MacTelnet.
So Basically follow the Devilfish's excellent guide for flashing and backing up via Telnet using the Mac applications I have listed above and you will get yourself up and running.

Celtic, did you use a usb to Serial adapter when Telneting?
I used bootcamp for the flashing but have been using Transmit to FTP from the Mac.

You can Telnet from the MAC OS Terminal program over Ethernet, for example...
Telnet 192.168.1.10 (or Whatever your box IP Address is)
Login as root, password is dreambox.
You do not need to use bootcamp, serial cables or to run a MS OS...etc as long as you do not NEED to run Dreamup. (Failed update over Ethernet for example).
My experience is that of Celtic's, in that I have found that the great information on this forum can be applied when using MAC OS, Linux and MS OS's. The 'good stuff' to get you running (Telnet commands, FTP directories...etc) are Linux commands and paths relating to the box so nothing to do with whatever OS you are running on your PC.
I'm running MAC OS X.5 and have installed VLC for MAC and can watch TV through it, Use Safari or Firefox to control & watch the box from it's web page interface, Telnet to the box using terminal, FTP using Filezilla.....etc
I also have a similar setup on a Linux Laptop.
I have never had to use Dreamup or a serial cable to set up a box yet!
Nice! I always thought to setup a dreambox, serial connection was a must! Me bad! Whist we are at it.....I'm trying to figure out streaming over the internet. I have the vlc browser plugin so can watch on my laptop locally. Looking at the guides, it seems that you first have to stream to a server and then you request it over the internet? If you see my earlier post on streaming through the net, there was a question about the ports forwarding directly to the dreambox when the stream is technically coming from a pc acting as a server. I couldn't make sense of it. hmmmmm

I have not looked into this but may do soon if I get the time (re-decorating for Christmas! Why do women insist on doing this?!?!?!?!?!? )
I only have 720K..ish upload speed on my BB connection and I'm not sure this would be fast enough to stream to the Wibbly-Wobbly-Way?
I've written an app for OS X which reads the channels and bouquets and streams / records the channels for you. All done via VLC and ggrab. If you would like to try it out for me let me know and I'll post it.
Basically it allows you to change channels, see the channel EPG and the either record, watch, record and watch or just listen (via itunes) to the channel.
Also, have you streamed across the internet? 720k up would be ok for a watchable stream, although you wouldn't be able to have good quality at Full Screen.

Let me knwo and I'll post it up.
Sounds good that! Post it and I'll certainly have a look!
Yup, it was kind of successful, I have an 8Mb down / and up to 2Mb up connection. It was watchable, but to be honest, not enjoyable, if you see what I mean.
It is doable, I have done it, but its not something I have repeated.
