Here are my process for setting up my Blackbox DM500C. It should work for Dreambox DM500C as well. Most important, here is the link to download the relevant softwares.
Programs used:
- Filezilla (Instead of FlashFXP - FlashFXP copy 900 files and repeated the process instead of the files I wanted)
- Dreamup (v1.3.3.4 - v1.3.3.6 hang on me when flashing halfway ~ Process aborted by user)
Items used:
- Null modem cable RS-232
- Image File and certain relevant files
Procedures (View this newbie beginner guide on Youtube)
1) Tried to use Telnet to flash my box as I do not have a null modem cable. (Method from Guide: Flash and Backup via Telnet) Bad flash, so it killed my box, screen was black and blank when starting up.
2) Went down to SLT and bought a null modem cable. Note there are RS-232 straight cables and RS-232 null modem cables, internal wiring are different. (Thanks to Angsana for the info)
3) Came back and use Dreamup to flash, remember to connect the null modem cable and don't power on first. Instructions from Guide: Flashing a box with Dreamup (Tried the latest Dreamup v1.3.3.6 and it didn't work, so use Dreamup v1.3.3.4 instead)
4) After which, switch off the STB and plug in LAN cable.
5) Install Filezilla and follow the instructions from Guide: How to use FlashFXP to FTP to your Dreambox. (Filezilla has the same function as FlashFXP)
6) Should be able to enter the password according to the default. But just for additional info if you are trying to access the box and password don't match, try the steps from How to change Root Password If You Don't Know It.
7) After you FTP the required files into the box. The box should be working but the channels are jumbled up. You can use various bouquet editors like Dreambox Edit, Dreamset or Bouquet Wizard to edit the list.
8) Ta Da! Your have a working Dreambox!
