help using flash fxp please

help this is my first time using flash fxp and ive followed the instructions but not having much luck, it keeps saying connection failed i follow the steps exactlty
enter your ip into the server or url box.
under user name enter root
under password enter dreambox
click connect. then i get connection failed
what i want to do is save my sevice file and userbouquets and also back up keys folder re flash my bow with the kaos image and then flash fxp my sevice file and userbouquets back to box at the moment im using the digitalworldz image

Just a thought, are you sure you are using the correct ip address for your box?

make sure you have the proper cable too you want a crossover cable not a serial cable

rite you have an ethernet cross over cable=yes?
you take out your ethernet cable from your computer and replace it with your crossover ok
plug in your dreambox or d box to a tv first got to menu setting and then network find your ip add it may be its saying 10.0.0.7 and dhcp is ticked what i want you to do is untick dhcp
give your box an ip addy of 192.168.1.200
netmask is 255.255.255.2
then got to the next bit
nameserver 192.168.1.201
gateway 192.168.1.201
then come out of it
do you have flash fxp?if so open it up
goto your network setting on your computer
find you modem
rite click it
properties
tab down to internet protocol
high lite it then into properties
then tick : use the folling ip address and fill in with
192.168.1.199
ok it it will then say that part of it is mising just ok it and it will fill in then ok again wait till it has finished and then check to see if your ip addy has changed to that 192.168.1.199
got to flash fxp open it if its not opened put in 192.168.1.200
then user name is root
and password is dreambox or dbox
then ok it
a list should come up on the left hand side with all your stuff on your computer and on the other side you should see your dream box or d box

ok so i plug the cable into where my router plugs in on my pc?,i was plugging ethernet cable into my router ,ill give it ago and let you know how i get on many thanks

it dont really matter m8 as long as its a crossover ,plug it into your router np i have my crossover cable connected to my router 24/7

You won't need a cross over cable for a router connection.

ive followed father teds instructions word for word but it still dosnt connect, im plugging it straight into my router , ive got a normal ethernet cable i had the lads at work make it up last year if i need a crossover cable ill get one made up monday cause it needs to be bout 15 metres long ,this is very frustrating as i want to use the new kaos image but need my keys service file and userbouquets from my old image

Is there anyway you can test the cable? If it's 15 metres long it's not easy. You can buy an ethernet lead tester that you plug each end of the cable and led's on each unit count down as each leg is tested. I bought mine from fleabay for about six quid. You can test it without but you need a ground at each end then test each leg with a meter. If it's 15 metres apart you will need 2 of you idealy.

i think it is just an ethernet cable but if i definate need a crossover ill get the lads at work to make me up a crossover cable monday ,i just wanna get flash fxp working

You don't need a crossover cable if you're using a router. Try the cable with your pc to the router. If it works you know the cable is not the issue. Also drop windows firewall and any other firewall you're using. Are the first 3 octets of the ip address the same on both the pc and the box? Can you ping the box? (go to cmd and type "ping" followed by the ip address of the box).

many thanks all for all your help its working now using a crossover cable and my daughters laptop, what i want to do now is use the new kaos image ,could someone tell me what files i need from my digitalworldz image and put to the kaos image i also want to save my user bouquets
